The Oak Harbor (Wash.) Wildcats were scheduled to take on Marysville Pilchuck (Wash.) High School on Friday night in the Wesco 3A North division title game, but the team decided to voluntarily forfeit and give the title to Marysville Pilchuck.

Pilchuck, a school located outside Seattle, was the location of a fatal school shooting on Friday.

The gunman, identified by police as Jaylen Fryberg, was a member of the football team. He died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound on Friday.

In response to the news, Nicholas Alonso, a senior cornerback on the Pilchuck team, tweeted out: “Big shout out to Oak Harbor for taking 2nd Place in WESCO North. You guys are the real League Champions.”

Pilchuck, a school of 1,200 students, will be closed next week.
