Fire at Alabama chicken house kills 10,000 birds
Authorities are blaming an electrical short for starting a fire at an Alabama chicken house late last week that killed about 10,000 of 18,000 birds housed there, according to a local report.
Fire officials said the Friday night fire damaged most of the Bynum, Ala.-based poultry operation. The blaze required three local firefighting units, including the 45-member fire department in nearby Oxford, Ala., to bring under control. No humans were injured in the aftermath of the fire, according to the report.
