The wait is over for the “Swifties”

The anxious countdown to Taylor Swift’s new album is over for “Swifties” all around the world because the singer’s album, “1989,” hit stores on Oct. 27. I rushed to Target the morning it hit shelves and picked up the deluxe version of the release. The album itself comes with 13 tracks, which just so happens to be Swift’s favorite number. The version comes with three bonus tracks, “Wonderland,” “You Are in Love,” and “New Romantics.” It also comes with three of Swift’s songwriting voice memos titled, “I Know Places,” “I Wish You Would,” and “Blank Space.” If you thought her vintage Polaroid picture album packaging was unique and different, wait until you hear the music.

“1989” is unlike anything Swift has ever put out for her fans before. I definitely think that she broke out of her comfort zone and put her whole heart and soul into creating this album. Track number nine entitled, “Wildest Dreams,” had a more sexual tone to it which is definitely something new compared to her infamous upbeat chart toppers.

Listening to each track was like opening a new present on Christmas. It was exciting yet refreshing because each song was totally different. Track eight, titled “Bad Blood,” expresses the pain and hurt you feel inside after a bad breakup. It talks about not being friends with that person anymore, but all the scars from that break up are still there. This song is really relatable for girls because it expresses how you can still feel the exact pain that person caused you even after you break up, and lose contact. This is an amazing song because many girls can relate to this situation and these lyrics.

Swift usually writes songs that are about happy loving relationships, so I’m glad she wrote “Bad Blood” to show that not all relationships are perfect and it’s okay to be sad. The sound to this track is something that I’ve never heard on any of Swift’s previous albums. “Bad Blood” sounds really dark and grungy, which is definitely something new that Swift was trying out and it worked because the song turned out amazing. I love how the vibe in this song is so dark and edgy because it’s different. She definitely broke out of her comfort zone because it doesn’t sound like her usual happy, pop songs. I could tell she played around with this beat and experimented in this song. It showed me a new side of Swift that I would love to see more of. It stood out for me because it’s different and like no other Swift song I’ve heard before.

As always there is a beautiful message that lies beneath each of her songs. These tracks contain powerful lyrics as well. Some lyrics that stood out to me in particular were from track number 13 entitled, “Clean.“ My favorite lyric in this song is “When I was drowning that’s when I could finally breathe.” This song is so inspiring and it proves that everyone struggles.

After listening to the entire album, I love how it wasn’t what I was expecting at all. With this album I really saw change and growth in Swift as an artist. I think she proved that she could be versatile and edgy with her music. Each track has a different vibe with a new story.

Like all of Swift’s award winning albums, “1989” is about love, relationships, and cute boys. However, what’s different about it is that not all the songs are upbeat, fast paced, and energetic. I think she did an amazing job with this entire album. She really out did herself and took it to the next level with this album. I think I can speak on behalf of all the “Swifties” out there and say we are so proud of “1989.”
