New Ebola “Lest We Forget” Billboards
To complement and augment its awareness-raising “Protecting Global Health: Ebola First Responders” 2015 float entry in the 126th Rose Parade, AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) has put up billboards in the greater Los Angeles area with the headline “Lest We Forget: Ebola Deaths in Africa…”
The billboards feature a ticker that reads 6,914—the number of Ebola deaths in Africa at the time of the artwork’s creation two weeks ago. That number has grown to over 7,000 since the boards were created and went up earlier this week.
These new Los Angeles area Ebola billboards serve as a reminder that the Ebola crisis still rages in West Africa and needs ongoing worldwide attention and assistance. The billboards also enhance and augment the message of AHF’s “Ebola First Responders” float in 126th Rose Parade.

AHF’s Rose Parade float—which will feature a 17-foot tall rotating heart created out of over 25,000 red roses as well as an eight-foot-wide seeded floral globe symbolizing the global scope of the Ebola fight—will also have oversized floral portraits of AHF’s Dr. Sheik Humarr Khan, who died of Ebola in Sierra Leone on July 29th, and Dr. John Taban Dada, who succumbed to the disease on October 9th in Liberia.

AHF will be hosting a Media Availability & Private Luncheon Reception Wednesday, December 31st from 12noon until 2:00pm in Hollywood to introduce four of nine surviving siblings of Dr. Sheik Humarr Khan, one of the AHF doctors who died of Ebola. The four siblings will ride on AHF’s Rose Parade float in honor of, and tribute to their fallen brother.
