Longmont star motivated by loss

He is the type of player coaches with the had more of.

“Find a love for sports and football has always been my favorite,” said Longmont junior Logan Goodner.

“It’s an internal fire,” added defensive coordinator Brian Arndt. “You never have to worry about him bringing the intensity to the game.”

Goodner’s passion for football is something to admire, however it is not something to desire.

“Football is 1 of the things I am best at in life and every time I come out and play I wish she was in the stands,” Logan told 9NEWS.

She, is Logan’s older sister Delaney. She was diagnosed with a rare form of soft tissue cancer at the age of 13. Delaney died in December of 2011 after a long fight. She was in the middle of her junior year of high school.

“I told her I was going to make her proud,” said Logan who dedicated his life to Delaney. He speaks to her before every game.

“Pray that she takes care of us that we can play as strong as she was for those 4 years,” said Logan.

She is with him every day of his life.

“Sometime when I make a big hit I think ‘How about that Delaney! How was that hit?’,” said Goodner with a smile. “Hopefully she’s looking up their smiling like ‘Ohhh that was a big hit Logan’.”

Find your motivation. That is what Logan asks of his friends and teammates.

He certainly has his.

“She was so strong,” said Goodner. “One day I hope I can be as strong as her.”
