Cherry Creek beats Ralston Valley 27-15 in 5A semi-final

KUSA – Cherry Creek and Ralston Valley squared off in a 5A semifinal game Friday, Nov. 21; both 1st ranked teams in their pools. The Bruins and their star running back Milo Hall are on a role after a big win against Regis Jesuit – just like the Mustangs and star Andrew Wingard after a 71-29 dismantling of Fairview.

Creek started the game off with a 3-0 lead over RV a little less than seven minutes in the first quarter from a field goal by Henry Lyon.

Shortly after, Creek’s Santino Marchiol got an interception off Ralston’s second drive of the game. Bruins got the ball on the 32,m and after an impressive drive led by Milo Hall, Creek scored the game’s first touchdown late in the first quarter, pushing the lead over RV to 10-0.

In the second quarter, Creek took a bad snap, resulting in a Ralston Valley ball. RV’s Kyle Rush took it to the house for Ralston’s first score of the game, cutting the Bruins lead to 10-7.

Creek’s Milo Hall ran the ball 47-yards for a touchdown to put the Bruins up 17-7 with a little less than six minutes in the first half.

The Bruins led the Mustangs 17-7 at the half.

Early in the third quarter, RV’s Collin Root kicked off to Joe Parker, who took it to the 24-yard-line. It was all back to business for Creek as Milo Hall got to work on an impressive 30-yard run/spin/juke thing – just absolutely powering his way toward the end zone, putting Creek up 24-7 over the Mustangs.

Ralston was able to hold off the Creek offense to a field goal, bringing the score to 27-7 with a little less than three minutes to go in the third quarter.

Starting the fourth quarter, Creek is forced to punt the ball for a touchback; but Ralston Valley turned it into a great drive to score on a quarterback sneak, and 2-point conversion. Ralston once again cuts the Creek lead to 27-15

Breaking Ralston’s momentum, Creek’s Morean intercepts the ball. The Bruins kneeled the ball in an effort to run down the clock.

Through a series of penalties, injuries, and lack of offensive rhythm, the Mustangs struggled to put points up on the board and hold the Bruins on defense. Creek’s running game was a powerhouse, and it ran the team right into the 5A championship game.

Cherry Creek will take on the winner of the Grandview vs Valor Christian semifinal game taking place Saturday, Nov. 22 at Legacy Stadium.
