Longtime Hip-Hop magazine XXL has been sold. The publication was purchased from Harris Publications by Townsquare Media, which announced it was shuttering the mag.

XXL will continue, but only as an online entity. The mag’s next issue, which features Lil Wayne on the cover, will be its last.

Reports the New York Post:

The October-November issue of the six-times-a-year title, now at the printer, will be the final edition, sources said. After that, XXL will be digital-only.

Two additional digital properties also are being acquired: Antenna Magazine, a young men’s title and one-time print edition that launched as a digital men’s pop culture site in July; and King-mag.com, a suspended entity that will have a digital relaunch.

Fortunately, 11 staffers in the sales and editorial departments of XXL will be offered jobs with Townsquare. The Hip-Hop brand’s purchaser already has a Hip-Hop site in its network after purchasing The Boombox from AOL Music last year.

It hasn’t been a good month for Hip-Hop flavored mags. About two weeks ago, it was announced that VIBE will no longer print a mgazine and will now be online only, too.

As a past contributor, this writer must say, Rest in power, XXL magazine.
