Though Derek Jeter disappointingly won’t get a Commissioner’s Trophy for his last year with the New York Yankees, “Mr. November” plans on taking an unconventional route for retirement. Starting today (Oct. 1), Jeter has created a media outlet dedicated to giving sports fans an “unfiltered” view of athletes through The Players’ Tribune.

In a statement released on the site, Jeter said The Players’ Tribune will be a tool where athletes can share what they really think and feel.

“I am working with other athletes, with editors and with producers to create a platform that gives us a chance to say what’s on our minds. It’s called The Players’ Tribune,” said Jeter. “Over the next few months, we’ll be introducing a strong core of athlete editors and contributors who will shape the site into an online community filled with first-person stories and behind-the-scenes content.”

After spending his entire career with the Yankees and winning five championships, the All-Star summed up his plans for the site. “My goal is for the site to ultimately transform how athletes and newsmakers share information, bringing fans closer than ever to the games they love,” he said. “The Tribune will strive to be “The Voice of the Game.”

The Players Tribune won’t just be a site of athletes playing journalist however. Though Jeter is the platform’s publisher, founding editor of ESPN The Magazine Gary Hoenig will serve as editorial director, Sarah Turcotte as executive editor and Sports Illustrated’s former photography director Maureen Cavanagh will be its creative director.

Though details on content roll-out was scarce, The Players’ Tribune will feature everything from videos and podcast to player polls and written pieces. According to the site, expect the next editorial reveal tomorrow.
