Government to lift election blackout for electronic media

For as long as most can remember all political advertising must cease three days prior to an election. But only on Radio and Television. Newspapers have been free to benefit from heavy last  advertising leading right up to polling day.

However, it seems that the electronic media ban is about to be lifted according to a report in The Australian.

The government is considering the move as part of its policy to cut red tape. It recognises that the blackout is no longer effective given the many ways it can be circumvented via internet and social media.
