Former Massillon woman charged with murder

CantonRep.com staff report

A county grand jury has indicted a former Massillon woman on a murder charge.

Colleen M. McKernan, 28, also faces a firearm specification.

If convicted of the charges, she faces 18 years to life in prison.

Investigators say she shot her husband, Rob, during a New Year’s Eve confrontation in their home on Oak Trail Street NE in Massillon.

She called 911, telling the dispatcher that she fired after her husband hit her. She said she was drunk and didn’t mean to do it. She also can be heard trying to perform CPR.

The indictment, released Tuesday by the Stark County Prosecutor’s office, lists her address as 3251 Rayanna St. NW in Perry Township.
