Fr. Domingo “Dan” delos Angeles burst into tears when he found out he passed the bar exams.

“I could not help but cry. I could not contain the joy I felt. How good You are, Lord. I have proven that God really answers prayers even how mundane they are,” he said. Delos Angeles credited his success to hard work and prayers.

“Passing the bar exams by myself is impossible. I once failed in law school. I really got discouraged. The passing rate of last year’s bar exams was only 18 percent. I had very slim chance of making it,” he said.

But the Cebuano priest placed his faith in God and the saints whom he requested to assist him. During the bar exams he assigned particular saints to help him in every subject.

Delos Angeles said he has no definite plans yet as to what to do next after passing the bar exams.

“I told (Cebu) Archbishop Jose Palma, my life is in your hands. You decide. I have always told myself that if I’ll become a lawyer, it’s always for the service of the Church, not hidden agenda, nothing for myself,” he said.

“Seriously, when I became priest, I have no other ambitions. All these I did to enhance my ministry as priest. Whatever happens, I will be a priest forever like an onion, even though how many times you peal it, it would remain an onion. I am a priest to the core,” Delos Angeles said.

But isn’t lawyering and priesthood incompatible?

“There’s a misconception that lawyers are liars. The more deceitful you are, the more successful you are as a lawyer. But that is not what lawyers are supposed to be. It is easy to sanctify this profession because lawyering is all about truth,” he said.
