Sheridan pitcher Donovan Contreraz strikes out 19

KUSA – Sheridan junior pitcher Donovan Contreraz allowed one hit (off of a bunt) which ruined his no-hitter against Arrupe Jesuit on Saturday.

“It’s brutal. The no-hitter was this close to getting done, but at the end of the day, we’ll take nothing away from Donovan’s performance,” said Sheridan head baseball coach Manny Marquez.

Contreraz really did put on a show. He struck out 19 batters this past weekend to help lead his team to a 3-0 victory. He found his rhythm.

“I just felt comfortable up there and just kept doing me,” Contreraz said.

Don’t worry, his last outing won’t go to his head either.

“I try not to think about it that much,” Contreraz said. “I try to stay humble and try to focus on the next game.”

Donovan has his mind set on one thing this year.

“My goal since the beginning of the season is to lead the state in strikeouts,” explained Contreraz.

We’re only a few games in, but Donovan already has the most strikeouts in the state with 48.

The Sheridan Rams will get ready to play in the Arvada Tournament this week. Sheridan will face Denver West on Wednesday, April 1st at 3pm.
