Rajasthan CM Vasundhara Raje approves ‘police outposts’ for cow protection

Raje on Monday announced on her twitter handle that ‘39 new police outposts are to be established in Rajasthan.

Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje Monday approved 39 new police outposts that will be dedicated to cow protection in the state. The ruling BJP had promised the establishment of a new ‘cow ministry’ in its poll manifesto and though a separate ministry is yet to come up, the state government has taken its first major step towards living up to its cow protection vow.

Raje on Monday announced on her twitter handle that ‘39 new police outposts to be established in Rajasthan – specially tasked with cow protection along with crime, law and order.’ The police check posts will be set up in areas that report higher instances of cattle trafficking.

The state government already has a Cow Conservation Directorate, Gau Sewa Commission, Animal Husbandry Directorate and Rajasthan Livestock Development Board, yet the BJP had promised in its poll manifesto to set up a ‘cow ministry’. Though a ministry is not plausible for a state government, a separate cow department was proposed. The existing departments are likely to be merged to execute this.
