Snow makes fighting fire tougher

FRAMINGHAM – Battling a two-alarm fire at a Kings Row Lane home on Wednesday was made more difficult by several feet of snow, surrounding the house, that has fallen in the past few weeks, authorities said.

“We had to bring extra people because of the snow,” said Framingham Fire Chief Gary Daugherty. “They had to trudge through all of the snow, and the roof was covered with snow and we had to dig through it to open the roof to vent it. The guys did a great job.”

A woman living at the home called police around 2:30 p.m. and said she could see smoke on the second story of the 6 Kings Row Lane home.

When firefighters arrived, they found fire in a room on the second floor and flames had spread to the attic, the chief said.

The home was cluttered, but Daugherty said firefighters could maneuver throughout the home. It took them about 30 minutes to get the fire under control.

Daugherty estimated the home sustained $75,000 to $100,000 worth of damage.

According to the town assessor’s office, the 1,500-square-foot home is assessed at about $400,000.

The cause of the fire is not known and is being investigated by the Framingham fire marshal’s office, Daugherty said.

The house is currently not livable and the resident is making her own arrangements, the chief said.
