Meet, Screen, Exchange
The Marietta Police Department is offering police headquarters as a safe place for online buyers and sellers of goods to meet and complete their transactions in a safe environment.
The use of the internet as a tool to connect buyers and sellers of items is continuing to increase, however there is an obvious danger in meeting strangers at unfamiliar locations to complete transactions. Personal safety is more important than getting a great deal, especially when the deal may turn out to be a ruse to isolate someone in order to rob them.
The Marietta Police Department has developed a new “Meet.Screen.Exchange Program” in order to provide buyers and sellers a safe haven at the police department for people to meet and complete their exchanges. While the police department will not become involved in transactions, if requested, officers will screen items to ensure they are not stolen. There are no fees for the Meet.Screen.Exchange Program services.
The intent of the MPD in with this program is to enhance public safety by allowing those completing online transactions to be more comfortable meeting a stranger in a safe environment where help is readily available.
There is no appointment needed, as the police department is always open.
