Local Man Charged in Early Morning Knife Attack

A 26-year old Burlington man will face a felony charge of Willful Injury, for allegedly stabbing another man in the back with a knife at 109 S.6th Street.

26-year old Justin Overturf of 603 Summer Street, Apt. 6, ran from the area after the attack, but he was apprehended by Burlington police, hiding between vehicles, east of where the incident occurred around 2 am.  He was taken to the Des Moines County jail and a judge set his bond at $10,000.

The victim of the stabbing, 49-year old Lloyd Johnson, was taken by ambulance to Great River Medical Center for treatment of multiple knife wounds. Authorities described his injuries as life-threatening.

Witnesses told police that Overturf had arrived at the home shortly before a fight broke out, when he refused to leave the vehicle that had brought him there.  Several neighbors, including Johnson, tried to help the vehicle owner remove Overturf, who eventually emerged with a knife and began stabbing Johnson.
