Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I currently teach a third and fourth grade bridged 12:1:1 special education classroom. So there are only twelve students in my classroom and one paraprofessional to assist me with the varying needs of my students. The students are a very diverse group that come from many different cultures and battle with many different issues.

All of my students are second language learners and many come from homes that do not speak English. Thus, many of the students have difficulty practice their reading skills at home because they do not have anyone to read with. The main educational issue they struggle with is reading comprehension due to a lack of vocabulary.

The CD/cassette player, listening center, and copies of read alongs will allow my students to read along and work on comprehension skills independently. A few of my students often are distracted while reading independently and since I cannot read with all students individually at the same time this will allow the students to work in a small group setting.

Your help will make it possible for my students to practice reading along as they build reading comprehension and background knowledge. In turn they will become more confident in their skills and build interest in reading independently.
