Meet Suddenly Darling Founder Katelyn Rose!

17: How did you get started with this website?

Katelyn Rose: We wanted to create a site that not only shows girls how to dress fashionably, but also to show them where to buy affordable clothes. What inspired me was, growing up, modesty has always been on my heart. I would go to concerts and see teenage girls dressed so inappropriately, and I've always wanted to do something about it.

So in the summer of 2008, my dad and I were talking about what I should do to get started on my career and we came up with starting a fashion site. So I thought, why don't we not just show girls how to dress fashionably, but also modestly.

17: Do you pick out all of the clothing on the website?

KR: Yes, I choose all the affordable stores like Old Navy, Forever 21, Urban Outfitters, Payless, and Target. The clothes I wear are mostly vintage, because I love vintage clothes, so I take my clothes and I find clothes that look like that.

17: What is your favorite thing about the website?

KR: I love the Darlings Give Back section. We want to show girls that it's good to give back to others. If girls have a story of what they did, they put it up and they earn points. We have a Darling points store where they can actually buy gift cards with their points. Girls also can earn points by commenting on the site and being a part of the contests.

17: How else can girls get involved on the site?

KR: In the future girls will be able to upload pictures and tag the clothing they're wearing. We also have a contest called Darling of the Month where girls can upload a picture and each month the Darling team chooses a winner, who receives a $100 gift card to their favorite store.

17: How would you describe your personal style?

KR: I don't really know how to define it. I'm really into the vintage, old-fashioned look. I love wearing dresses and floral. If you look at my closet it's like a big garden. In the fall, I love layering my clothes with vests and tights. Just anything funky, but practical to wear.

17: Where do you see yourself in five years?

KR: I want to create a fashion line that not only reflects my own style, but also is a style girls can relate to. I hope to bring reality to the runway.
