Today, KSiteTV visited the set of Supernatural, which is currently filming what looks to be a fun episode by the name of “Hunteri Heroici.” While here, we and other journalists were able to speak with Jared Padalecki (Sam), Jensen Ackles (Dean), and Misha Collins (Castiel).
Look for all of those interviews (and video!) in the coming days, but first… we thought you might like to hear what Jared had to say about Sam’s new relationship. Whenever a girl is brought on to Supernatural, it’s usually controversial. Will this one be any different? It very well might be, since the relationship starts while Dean and Cas are thought to be long gone.
“The relationship between Sam and Amelia, which I really enjoy, is done in retrospect,” he tells us. “It’s sone mostly in flashbacks. We will get into it in the season, a real-time relationship; but I’ve kind of been not petitioning in the literal sense of the word, but vocal about ‘guys. I love when shows will go back and show what’s happened,’ and I’ve loved the episodes of Supernatural that have done it, like ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer.’ I’ve loved episodes that have gone back in time and told a cool story that you can’t tell in the present tense as well as you can tell in reflection,” he says.
“So we see a lot of Sam and Amelia in flashbacks, which is nice, because we all see Dean and what he kind of did in his flashbacks,” Jared continues. “They’re very opposite sides of the coin, where one guy is happy and content and living a quote ‘Supernatural Winchester normal life,’ and the other is in Purgatory, fighting for his life. So we see Sam and Amelia develop this relationship; they’re both misfits, they’re both going through a loss, and they’re both not outcasts so much, but they’re brought together by a bizarre set of extenuating circumstances, and they find each other in each other’s arms, in each other’s minds, and say ‘this is good, what we’ve got. Why look a gift horse in the mouth? Let’s just kind of go with it’.”
Jared wasn’t sure that this new storyline would work when he initially heard about it. “At first, maybe I’ve become like a fangirl of the show, but I was like ‘A GIRL? FOR SAM? WHAT’S HE DOING?’ But as I’ve learned about the relationship, I was so happy to explore that role, and that character. Sam, from the get, has been hoping to reinvent himself as the person that he always thought he was, which is kind of backwards-speak. But he was the one who, in the pilot, wanted to stay in the college. He was at Stanford, hoping for his test scores to come back. He’s always fought for the normal life, and he’s always fought for the relationship, not always to his credit. He’s made some wrong turns. But we basically find out, in retrospect, what’s happened. As the show opens, the relationship’s in the past, but it’s still on Sam’s mind,” he says.
The return of Dean will bring an end to Sam’s new life, and going back to a hunter’s life might not be the top thing on Sam’s mind. “He’s not willing,” Jared says. “I think Sam, in this season, is different than Sam in other seasons where Dean was in Hell, or when Sam was in Hell. Usually when they’ve been split up, there’s been the impetus of ‘my brother’s in trouble. I’ve got to save him. I’ve got to help him. He’s got to help me. He’s got to save me.’ But here, Sam is like ‘you know what? [Everyone’s gone]. I’m going to take off the hunter garb, and just live a normal life, because I have nothing tying me back’,” he says.
Amelia is in flashback for most of the first third of Season 8, though Jared does tell us we will see her in the present day as well. “Sam certainly hasn’t written her off. Sam’s not BS-ing when he says to Dean and Cas ‘I want out. I’ve been out, and my heart is not here. I’m doing this to make good on my commitments, but my heart’s elsewhere.’ So we do see Amelia in the present tense, but we do kind of play with present tense and past tense, which I’m really excited about,” he says.
Supernatural Season 8 begins Wednesday, October 3 on The CW.

i love to see sam and dean together so plz always be together and brother relationship is always looks awesome i love this duo
Not intrested in Amelia LOL, I tried, but she doesn’t make a storyline for Sam. I just see no interest there. Wanted to hear more about Sam and Dean’s relationship. It’s like they are slowly making Sam and Dean non existent
So according to Jared, Cas is out of Purgatory from the get go? I’m really confused right now…
No to al of this. If Sam “gets out” what the heck do they do then? Do Dean and Castiel become the new Sam and Dean? UM NO THANK YOU VERY MUCH OKAY. Do they schedule hunts in advance? Call ahead to make sure Sam is available in between grocery shopping and gardening? Drop him back off at home when it’s all done? How could that possibly work for future seasons if they truly plan to go to season 10? My biggest fear is that Castiel replaces Sam as the “hunter” while Sam is off somewhere playing house because he wants to be normal. The whole “brothers going their separate ways” thing seems contradictory to the very essence of what Supernatural is. I’m definitely not having high hopes for this season (or new show runner). But I am glad that Jared is acting a role that he enjoys.
OMG “Dean and Cas”?? So Cas makes it out?! HALLELUJAH!! But I hope Sam doesn’t totally break from the trio! Team FREE WILL BABY!
I must say, I’m super pleased to hear Cas made it out and team free will is back together. :) I’m actually really looking forward to learning more about Amelia too!! CANNOT WAIT.
Oh hell yeah, this sounds awesome. Drama and tension. Cas is back. YES.
Slow your roll people. Surely Jared isn’t implying that Sam sits out while Dean and Cas continue to hunt. In what world would Castiel replace Sam? I’m THRILLED that this pretty much confirms that Cas escapes and is alive and well, but dang this fandom is quick to overreact.
Obviously the brothers being separate is about the time of Dean at Purgatory, they would never dare to change Sam for someone else and the same JENSEN won´t let that happen and neither Jared. I do like Cas and I hope see him more in the Winchesters side because they care about him too, but nop Sams a hunter that won´t change this would be kind of like when Jess and collage maybe as for Jeremy, he did season 3(my favorite) and my more favorite episodes of the others so yeah I LIKE HIM MORE THAN SERA sorry
Did you not interview Jensen? I know he was doing interviews today too. I’d be very interested in hearing about what he had to say, as he’s generally the strongest spokesman for the show and makes it sound like something people might want to watch.
I’ve never believed in Team Free Will, ever. It never really existed on the show for real, IMHO. If this is a set up to cut Sam out of the main plot and the car and Dean, then just end the show now, because it’s already dead.
I like the idea of Sam and Amelia, because Sam’s never had a true friend on the show whose loved him for who he is, but then again, Amelia doesn’t know Sam’s real past yet. Dean’s been mean and cold to Sam since season 4, and I’m really really really tired of his nasty attitude towards Sam. This season is clearly a set up to allow Dean to be a bastard to Sam with the audience’s full blessing, because Sam isn’t being a hunter and he didn’t try to save Dean or Kevin in the past year. If we find out differently, it’ll probably be too late to do Sam any good in terms of sympathy with viewers.
They pull this trick on Sam every damn season. It makes me really unhappy that they are going there again with a new show runner. When Sam suffered 2 centuries of rape and torture from angels while in the Cage in Hell, it was blown off and ignored – Sam spent most of season 7 acting like rape and torture is like going to the spa. While Dean had a mid-life crisis, of all things. Dean had a solid 14 episode arc being miserable about nothing, while Sam took care of Dean and Dean’s drunk liver. Now, Dean spends a year in Purgatory with 2 pals and he’ll get the full spread of sympathy and trauma coverage from the writers and producers. I’m disgusted by this attitude. How is this at all about “family” anymore, when Sam isn’t allowed to be treated like a full human being who matters to people?
Good for Sam to take a break, but it won´t be forever, and no the show´s about the brothers and the character who help and make the show interesting, so Sam won´t stop hunting, don´t worry! Cas gets out, I think the people at set didn´t want us to know that already, ops! good they need friends that doesn´t die forever, like it should feel like crap knowing that every single person that becomes your friend or helps you dies
Sorry, I misread your first paragraph and see that you did interview the other actors. However to be honest I’d have been far more interested in hearing about Benny, because you know it’s actually supernatural, which is what the show is about, as opposed to some sideshow “yay my brother’s dead(or at least I’d have to work really really hard to find out what happened to him and I can’t be bothered) now I can have a normal life!” romance.
Can’t wait until you post Jensen Ackles interview. And congrats to Misha Collins on his new little girl.
Hm. It will be … interesting? to see how Sam’s new life fits into the show. Especially as it relates to Dean and, eventually, Cas. And especially since Jared just said that Sam isn’t willing to give up his girl when the timeline veers to the present. I wonder how they will balance Sam wanting Amelia and a normal life with his hunter life and what that means for the brothers’ relationship. (I’m one of those fans who, like Jared and Jensen, still firmly believes this show hinges on the relationship between Sam and Dean.) I don’t think that it’s any surprise that JC would place Dean and Cas in one corner and Sam in a separate corner, though. A look at any episode he’s written will show his proclivity to do just that. I’m sure it will make for some very good conflict. This show thrives when there’s conflict. All in all great source of news. Jared has always been the one to give the greatest insight into what’s going on with the show. It’s like he should be running their PR department. Haha.
Sorry to say Junebug but if you really think the writers would cut Sam out of the storyline then you have no idea what the show is about. To be honest, it sounds like you don’t even like the show at all. Maybe it’s time to find something else to watch. ;)
Castiel can be a part of their lives, a part of their family, and help them hunt WITHOUT replacing Sam. I love Team Free Will and I want to see all three of them working together again.
I’m also interested in Amelia and I think it’d be a nice refreshing change if Sam can find a way to continue to hunt with his brother and make a long distance type of relationship work with her.
Although I will say that it’s getting very tiring to see Sam used as the whipping boy in this show. I hope to god they give us something more than the crap he’s gotten so far. Season 7 was utter garbage as far as Sam’s story went. He’s being mentally tortured as a result of Castiel’s self-righteousness and it gets treated like no big deal in comparison to Dean’s mid-life crisis of sorts. Fans, en masse, whine about Dean and his “lack of story” and how Cas was “killed” but totally overlooked the fact that Cas is the one who made Sam enjoy being mind-raped by Lucifer for the better part of a year. My guess is that Sam’s going to be the one people hate this season too. I mean, it’s alright to have your favorites, fandom. But when your favorite blinds you to reason, it’s time to step back. Dean is just as much a little bitch as Sam is if you get what I’m sayin’. Also, Team Free Will is a fandom invention. It’s not a part of the canon. In the canon, Sam isn’t a part of TFW because he is, as Cas noted, an abomination. Cas didn’t rebel for Sam. Sam didn’t influence his decision at all. It was purely Dean. The idea that Sam is somehow a part of this unified front against heaven is ludicrous. As much as I adore Cas, that’s the one thing fandom has done to make me resent his character. (The rest he does on his own.)
god these spoilers are atrocious. sam’s storyline sounds boring and completely out of character. are we supposed to believe the competent hunter sam of time after time is unable to put 2 and 2 together and figure out that dean didn’t just ~~magically~~ disappear and die? also the line about not being held back by anything makes it sound like he thinks dean is some sort of burden on sam or something. ugh.
@cities There’s nothing out of character about it. This is the life that Sam has always wanted since day 1, and he’s never, in his heart, been able to let go of that dream. I’m sure he initially tried to find a way for Dean to get out, but there’s only so much you can do when you literally are alone in the world. The trails end up going cold, and then there’s nothing more you can do! Give him a break for accepting it and finding some love in his life!
I did interview Jensen, but considering I had only been back in my room for a short time, and that other outlets had already covered Jensen, I posted what Jared had to say first. Jensen will come next.
I can’t be Superman and transcribe two interviews at a time….
I think it sounds fantastic! So many new relationships and dynamics. Sure to create some GREAT drama and GREAT television. Can’t wait to see how it all unfolds.
Also to the people complaining about Sam: RELAX. The show is always gonna be about the bros, and they’re never gonna go their separate ways for good, or we wouldn’t have Supernatural anymore! But if we don’t have tension and conflict, we ALSO don’t have a show! Boring! So, just sit back and enjoy, sillies.
One thing though: Y’all are gonna have to accept that Castiel is also an integral part of Dean’s life now. With season 8, Cas has been in his life for half of the show’s airing, so…it would be healthy and positive for you to embrace it. Cas is never gonna “steal” Dean away from Sam though. But he’s important to him! And it’s important that he’s important to him! So let’s all just enjoy, shall we? Thanks.
None of this sounds the least tiniest bit interesting to me and that makes me really sad. I guess it truly is over. Sam is my favorite character and if they’re going to retcon him this badly then there’s no reason for me to watch the show anymore. :((((
RIP Supernatural. You went out with a wimper.
@Katie86 A lot has happened in seven seasons and the Sam of Season 1 is not the same Sam of Season 7. I have no problem with him finding love in his life, that’s awesome! But I refuse to believe that he would just think Dean died just because he disappeared. And I also think it’s ridiculous that Sam would feel like Dean was something “holding him back” like he’s doing him some big favor by hunting. I want the Sam that would do anything to get his brother back, even attempt to make a demon deal to switch places with him in hell like we saw in I Know What You Did Last Summer. Not a Sam that’ll give up and go off to smell the roses.
@cities: But Sam does think he died. In the episode 1 clip that was released Sam says, “you’re freakin’ ALIVE!” like he can’t believe it. Why wouldn’t he think he was dead? If Cas and Dean were supposed to KILL Dick, and when they did, got taken with him, wouldn’t that lead Sam to believe that they themselves were killed in the process? And like I said, I truly believe Sam did try, for a time, to find any information or leads to get Dean back, but like I said, when you HAVE none, you eventually reach a dead end. I do get what your saying about Dean “holding him back” and how that might irk you, but when you’ve accepted something and moved on, it’s hard to just return to it later. I don’t think it’s Dean himself holding Sam back, I think it’s more about Sam just wanting to live in peace, and maybe wanting Dean to live in peace too. But Dean is gonna want the complete opposite and be suffering from post-traumatic stress, thinking everything’s out to get him, wanting to go out and hunt and kill things. They’re at odds, but that’s one of the beautiful things about Supernatural, is that the brothers are always kind of opposite; one having demon blood, one being close with angels, one being Satan’s vessel, one being Michael’s, one being Cain, one being Abel. And they always seem to want different things as well, they’re never on the same wavelength. That’s just Sam and Dean. But at the end of the day, they’re still brothers and nothing’s gonna change that. The show will always be about their bond, and I’m sure Sam will come around.
@IsItFridayYet – it sounds like she is watching an entirely different show – the bizarro show where everything happens the opposite of how it does in the show’s reality. :)
@katie86. Sam isn’t “all alone in the world”, they have some other hunter friends and contacts(in fact we’re going to see Garth again this season). That’s just an excuse. There was only so much Dean could do to get Sam’s soul out of Hell too and yet somehow Dean managed to go above and beyond that “only so much” and do what everyone else told him was impossible. Also even prior to that, when Sam was out physically but no one had told Dean that, Dean was still trying to research some way to get him out, even while he was with Lisa and Ben(it was said in Season 6, Episode 1). So Dean never actually gave up.
And that was despite the fact that his “father figure” Bobby and his “friend” Castiel just didn’t even bother telling him Sam’s physical form at least was back topside. So Sam’s soul was theoretically down in Hell for an entire year longer than it needed to be. Not to mention the cruelty of allowing Dean to believe Sam was dead when they clearly believed he was alive, allowed Dean to have that grief hanging over his head. And their reasoning seemed to be “whatever we don’t need Dean anyway”. Sure they say it was so he could have a “normal life”(one he was only doing to fulfill a promise to Sam in the first place), but ultimately if you look at the big picture – they basically had the attitude “We don’t need him, we can do it all by ourselves”.
It’s kind of funny, it’s like in each case, they were all trying to prove how much better they could do it if Dean just wasn’t around. Shame that for all that they put down Dean’s intelligence or claimed he’s “just a human” – Dean’s the one among who has managed to pull of the seemingly impossible most often and is least likely to give up in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds. Mostly by using the intelligence they so frequently mock him as not having.
Knowing what Sam knows and being as smart as they are always talking him up to be – Sam would have had to have been looking for a way to find Dean for about 2 or 3 years before I’d ever buy that being enough time for him to “accept it” and moving on, and even then I’d expect him to keep looking in some of his spare time. The amount of time it sounds like Sam looked is paltry and unrealistic for a “trails cold” reasoning.
It really just looks like Sam was relieved and used it as an excuse–“Dean’s dead…here I come normal life!”. Because no way anyone in his position with half a brain would actually believe Dean was dead just because he disappeared, would figure it probably had something to do with Purgatory and if Dean could get pulled into Purgatory, there sure as heck had to be a way to get him out–or at least enough of a reason to believe so that Sam should have been looking for a long, long time before giving up.
As it is, Dean had to get himself out of Purgatory, which means Sam won’t have much of a leg to stand on when it comes to being critical of how he did it. Because Sam was free, in relative safety, to be trying to find a way to get Dean out he just couldn’t be bothered.
And let’s not forget about Kevin, the teenage prophet, whom Sam apparently left to his fate as well, with his “retirement”. Even saying he assumed Dean was dead, however inexplicably, he knew Crowley had Kevin and yet apparently chose to just leave him there, at least going by the info we have so far.
@cities “And I also think it’s ridiculous that Sam would feel like Dean was something “holding him back” like he’s doing him some big favor by hunting.”
I don’t know is that really out of character? Sam’s often been presented as believing Dean’s been holding him back, in one form or another. Maybe he just saw his chance to get Dean out of his life in way that he could convince himself not to feel guilty about(hey he disappeared, how am I supposed to figure it out all alone).
Because right now that is the only remotely logical explanation, it’s an ugly one, but it’s the only logical one that doesn’t paint Sam as a total idiot. So he’s either abandoned Dean because he wanted to be able to do other things OR Sam’s really NOT the smart brother. :)
@Nina Yes, it is out of character. Where’s the Sam of The Man Who Knew Too Much, the one who was willing to take on 100+ memories of being tortured in hell because, “You know me. You know why. I’m not leaving my brother alone out there.”? If Sam wanted a convenient excuse he would have left a long time ago, hell he would have left when he was going insane, hallucinating and completely unfit for hunting in Season 7. He would have left when he saw Dean disappear in Time After Time, for all he knew Dean could have been dead. But no, he gathered his resources, he used his hunter knowledge and he found a way to get Dean back. Just because the writers have decided to ignore the character development of the last two seasons and more doesn’t mean that we, the audience, have to believe that this is an in character presentation of the Sam we know. Also, I believe both brothers are equal in their intelligence, they just have different strengths and they demonstrate their intelligence in different ways.
Why are people complaining already? The episodes haven’t even aired yet, and people are saying they don’t like what’s happening. Give things a chance. Let’s watch the show and see what happens before we all get up in arms. The spoilers we’re hearing may not actually come to pass completely, so guys? CHILL OUT!
Tries again since my comment is not showing: I don’t have to like or ‘accept’ Dean and Cas’s crappy contrived relationship if I don’t want to. It goes against everything the show is about if they are treated as important as the brother bond between Sam and Dean. The show runners called the show the “Epic love of Sam and Dean”. Not Dean and Cas. Cas needs to gtfo. I don’t care about this boring fanservice character. Never will.
I loathe Harlequin romances, and I don’t want this crap on Supernatural, so I hope Amelia’s stay is short and sweet. Romance and “normality” is not why I watch this show.
Nor do I watch Supernatural for an angel storyline that has long outstayed its welcome.
I watch for the dysfunctional and co-dependent Winchester brothers, hunting things and saving people.
I hope, deep down, Jared feels the same way.
Please, Carver, can we get back to that?
“when he says to Dean and Cas”?! Does that mean Cas is out of Purgatory by this episode?! Oh PLEASE tell me that’s true!! I would love to have Team Free Will (Dean; Sam; Cas) together again! :-)
I know that things usually turn out differently when we see them so I’m trying not to get bothered by any of this but as much a I love Jared, he’s not doing any favours for his character or the show with these spoilers. They are o.k., yes Sam has always loved to have the quiet life and he deserves it if he wants to, and I have not problem with him getting a girl. Thats all interesting, Amelia seems like an o.k. s/l.
But thats where it ends or should start. We should hear how he did try and he’s devistated and how he has thoughts of Dean. I’m still hoping that he did try and actually did do something to get his brother out of purgatory. Get the boys back to saving each other and stop relying on every other damn character to do things for the boys.
I wanted Amelia’s story to catapult some kind of rekindling of the boys wanting to be together, wanting to do this, knowing who they are. This explanation of Jareds of how he’s not b’s ing and how he Sam wants to quit even though he has his brother back. There hopefully is something more to this that we don’t know just yet, but again Jared has done no favours for making me want to watch Supernatural.
I don’t get this Team Free Will, there is NO Team Free Will, there IS a Team Winchester though. They are the team on Supernatural. I hope Castiel isn’t back, again thats too easy. His storyline is always so convenient getting him back to being normal again. He dies, he blows up, he is infested with Levi’s but again he comes back. It makes his story so blah, who cares anymore.
I hope we don’t get the three of them together, this I DNW.
@cities @Nina: All I’m saying is you should give Sam a chance and hear his side of the story before freaking out about it. Just watch the show. Maybe there’s more to it that we don’t know. They obviously can’t tell us everything.
@Alex: There is Team Free Will. This isn’t fan-made. It was Dean himself who first said it, that the three of them together make it.
Man, people sure like to complain. If any of you really think any of this is gonna have a permanent impact on the bond between the brothers, then I don’t know what show you’re watching, because nothing, EVER has been strong enough to do that, and it’s not gonna start now.
Sorry, people, but “Supernatural” is something more, than the show about two brothers. This is the show about Winchesters AND other characters. I’m so glad we will see Castiel again! The show needs him, our angel, and the show needs other characters. If you don’t want to see this – well, your choice. But I’m tired of “Two brothers hunting show”. SPN needs more, much more, that Monster Of The Week. Our fave series needs great, big story line. Like Apocalypse, for example.
Thanks.
Ami, I love you ;).
@TP: “As much as I adore Cas”
Pull the other one, it clangs.
So looking forward to seeing Cas back and I really hope that is a spoiler Jared let slip. I want Cas back in TFW and it’ll be great to see Cas, Dean and Sam dealing with their issues and kicking evol ass together!
Clearly people who say there is no Team Free Will forget what Dean said back in “Song Remains the Same”!! HELLO?! If you’re going to criticize fans who like Misha/Cas, at least have your facts right!
WRONG, it still is a show about two brothers according to Adam Glass, an actual writer and producer on the show. Stop pushing your Cas fan agenda and stating it as fact. I don’t see any “team free will” and “Profound Bond” mentions here as the central theme of the show:
And I quote Adam Glass on S8:
“(it’s about) what’s the familiar idea with a fresh take? At the core we have this great show about two brothers who love each other, who’ve been through hell and high water for each other. It’s like how do you look at that dynamic in different ways? How do you continue to push their relationship, push their journey?”
” Usually when they’ve been split up, there’s been the impetus of ‘my brother’s in trouble. I’ve got to save him. I’ve got to help him. He’s got to help me. He’s got to save me.’ But here, Sam is like ‘you know what? [Everyone’s gone]. I’m going to take off the hunter garb, and just live a normal life, because I have nothing tying me back”
And you know what, Jared and Jeremy Carver? THIS was what made Supernatural so special. What did you kill that? SO disappointing.
Oh and Sam really want to get out? Then leave and I’ll leave the show. I’m not interested in watching Dean with Benny/Castiel and Sam/Amelia stuff.
The hell they’re doing to this show, man…
Great comments! I totally agree.
Thank you for the interview with Jared, appreciated! Looking forward to more and I am extremely excited for S8!
Hahaha so much BS. Sorry, but if it never crosses Sam’s mind that his brother can be in trouble and he thinks is okay to move on and get a dog and leave Dean to rot, I guess Sam is not really as smart or skilled as we’ve been told he was.
What I used to love about the show was that impetu Jared says is gone, that thing that kept Sam and Dean fighting for each other no matter what.
This show is not SPN anymore. They could at least change its name.
Oh. And new relationships are okay, but they can’t replace the one that is really important.
I doubt it will be as simple as Sam shrugging his shoulders and saying “Dean’s gone. Too bad. I’ll just look for a hot chick to settle down with.” I’m sure it’ll be more complicated than that and we’ll see what he went through via flashbacks. Sam may want out, but we know Dean will draw him back in and they’ll continue hunting together. I kind of hope he finds a way to make it work with Amelia in addition to going on regular hunts with his brother because I think it’s good and healthy for the brothers to have more than each other in their lives, but we’ll see what happens. :) I hope fears about Sam’s storyline prove groundless and Sam gets a great story this season we can all enjoy.
I wish the show would start already so the whiners will have something tangible to whine about.
I’m glad they seem to be making SPN more of an ensemble show. They are bringing in many new recurring characters. Love this actress they picked for Amelia. Love the actor they picked for Benny. Loved the actress they picked for Naomi. Looks like Sam and Dean will finally have some new interactions. Can’t wait until next Wednesday.
Oh dear. These spoilers sound awful. This is the only thing they can think of to give to Sam this year? Romance storylines bore me senseless. Sam is my absolute favourite character but I have absolutely no interest in this storyline for him, no desire whatsoever to learn about his relationship with Amelia. I want to see Sam properly back in the hunt with his brother, hunting things, killing monsters, the family business…not daydreaming over some girl and going back to visit her every other week or so. I can watch the soaps for twaddle like that.
I think the spoilers can go either way. Sam’s sl will depend on alot of things. They cant take Sam back to season 1 too much has happened however if his current mindset is down to everything he has been through then that should be a aspect of his sl. I just dont want a idea he just got up one morning and decided because the way was clear , that would be a disservice to Sam.
This is a delicate situation with Dean trying to survive in Purgatory the writing will have to be exploration and insight to the audience for Sam and not the hatchet job they did in seasons 4/5 .
The season could go either way but my fingers are crossed that they dont mess Sam up again .
Dean’s pretty much a hypocrite when it comes to hanging with supernatural creatures, and Castiel is the biggest hypocrisy ever, and that’s what I really object to. It doesn’t matter to Dean if his best buddy hurt, attacked, and nearly killed Sam and destroyed his mind, because Sam’s craziness can’t possibly compare to Dean’s grief over ‘losing’ his brother’s attacker. Castiel was the *villain* of Season 6, the actual villain for that season, and everyone is giving the character a free pass for it. Or worse yet, completely woobifying him for it, oh poor Castiel, he’s such an innocent child angel, boo hoo. Well, I don’t buy that and Dean shouldn’t either. Why did he kill Ruby and Amy then? Because they were connected to Sam, because they were women? Yet if Dean wants to work with monsters, it’s totally acceptable for himself. Just not Sam, or Castiel, or anyone else. It’s bull shit. And SPN should be better than bull shit.
As for Sam and Amelia, to my mind, at least she is an actual real friend for Sam. When people talk about other characters on the show, those usually belong to Dean with very little Sam interaction. That’s why I never believed in TFW. If they don’t interact with Sam equally, it’s not a real team and not a real family. TFW = more bull shit.
It’s been 8 seasons, and this is the first positive character they’ve ever bothered to give Sam to interact with in a positive way. That, more than anything, shows how heartless SPN has become since they brought the angels into the show.
Poor Amelia will have a difficult start in this fandom, but personally, I’m looking forward to her and her relationship with Sam. I also hope Jared’s “Dean and Cas…” means Castiel gets out of Purgatory and this isn’t some “lost in translation” thing/misunderstandig. I need that angel to be alive and well. At least as well as it’s going to get in Supernatural.
I’m really excited to see where this goes. I’m SO INCREDIBLY happy to have Cas back, and I’m really intrigued about this Amelia character. I’m keeping an open mind with both her and Benny. I want to give them a chance, and I think you guys should, too. Dean has his own special friend, why shouldn’t Sam have someone he can call his own? I think it’s great (and uh, healthy) that the boys form relationships outside of each other, because I have no doubt, that at the end of the day, they’re still gonna be in each other’s lives. So excited. :)
SAM AND JESSICA! :) ♥
I can’t wait to have Cas back and I’m also excited about Amelia. Oh, and Sam and Dean, of course ;) I think it’s a good thing the Winchesters form close relationships outside of each other and really about time. That doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy Sam and Dean and their relationship, it just means that it isn’t enough for me anymore. This show is in its eight season. It’s about time the Winchesters grow finally up a bit and expand their world with other characters they care about. It makes them that much more human.
This better not be the final Season!!
@Bea I agree! I’m so excited for Dean’s new relationship with Benny! He sounds like a really interesting character and it looks like they really bonded in purgatory. I can’t wait to see how it plays out topside.
I’m just here for the brothers. I’m not interested in Sam abandoning the search for Dean to play domestic!Sam, and I’m not interested in more of Castiel being wedged into storylines where he doesn’t belong. I know I’m not alone in this–there are plenty of other, quieter fans who want to see the brothers together, as a unit, taking on the world. We didn’t sign up for a supernatural soap opera, we signed up for two guys who care about each other more than anything with a badass car. I wish the writers realized that just because we’re not as loud as certain other factions, we do exist.
@Junebug
Okay, I agree with you that Cas intentionally hurt Sam (although, I don’t really agree with your wording), and I understand that you’re upset because you think he got a free pass for it (again, I don’t agree). BUT, Cas has done a lot of good deeds too, including sacrificing his life for Dean/the Winchesters (depending on how you look at it), TWICE. Are you suggesting that the brothers overlook that? ‘Cause that would be a bit hypocritical. You don’t want them to overlook Cas’ crimes, then don’t expect them to overlook his selfless accomplishments either.
And about Benny and Dean, come on, you and I both know that the relationship developed under life or death situations. You make it sound like Dean is working with Benny out of spite. Allies in Purgatory probably come few and far between. I definately don’t think Dean WANTED to work with Benny, but he knew that he HAD TO, in order to survive…
LOL, it must kill the Wincesters that they can’t force Casfans to fall into line with the “just the brothers” mantra. Tough. It’s up to us as viewers to decide what we want the show to be about. A whole lot of you have decided it’s about the brothers screwing each other. Well a whole bunch of us have decided it isn’t. Suck it.
@Laura
So viewers are the ones deciding what the show is about (HA is all I have to say about that)? But if a whole bunch of us have decided the brothers were and should be the focus of the show–since you disagree with us, we should be ignored?
Logic, how does it work?
The Sam spoilers make sense to me. Either the episodes as they unfold will elaborate and give us some Sam pov, or there will be some weird supernatural explanation for his decisions. Honestly, I’m hoping it’s the former. SPN has gone to the well once too often on “something wrong with Sam” to explain why he does things. But none of these spoilers makes me feel Sam gave up because he doesn’t love Dean or he’s less devoted. The Winchesters have lost so much, over and over again, including each other. To lose Dean and everyone else, altogether, and have no idea what happened to his brother (or to Cas)–it makes sense that Sam might decide to leave hunting. Sam never really gave up on normal. He became more hardened and decided there was no getting out–I don’t think he ever fully accepted that. Losing Dean would be a big blow to Sam’s motivation.
I felt the Sam and Dean relationship got mired in season 7, caught in the same patterns. Yes they are the core of the show and I love them, but a partnership like theirs needs to grow and develop, it can’t stay the same season after season. I’m really intrigued by these spoilers and a conflict between Sam and Dean that sounds like they’ll be united but with differences of opinion and philosophical outlook. That’s more exciting to me than Sam and Dean at each other’s throats or divided, and more exciting to me than Sam and Dean lock step without variation or any conflict.
\o/ I hope Castiel really is back on earth with both brothers. Castiel’s an amazing character. I’m excited about the Dean and Cas in purgatory stuff, but also I’d like to see Sam and Dean and Cas reunited. I’ll never understand how being a fan of Castiel is considered some threat to the Sam and Dean show. Sam and Dean are the center pillars of SPN, everyone knows that. It gets real old hearing over and over that if you’re cheering for Castiel, you’ve misunderstood SPN. I’m a fan of SPN and Castiel’s a character on SPN and fans care about him. There is no downside.
Some commenters like @Junebug will complain no matter what, because outrage is a hobby and main source of pleasure.
This year is definitely a year that demands watching the episodes before criticizing. Because Carver is doing a clear reboot, and we need to know what first. But I suspect everyone is going to have plenty of grist for outrage, for every type of fan, after the story starts.
Mmmm .. so Dean was *tying* Sam back? I really can’t believe Sam abandoned his brother like this. I hope there’s a better reason to that. Doesn’t make sense at all.
And yet again, Dean can’t ever get a love story. They even took away his one night stands.
I’m sorry, good for Sam and all that he gets a romance, but why is he always the only one who gets any hit of true love but never Dean? And I’m sorry, we never saw the romantic side of his relationship with Lisa. Can we see this side of Dean just once please? I love Sam but to me, Dean always gets the short end of the stick.
Blame the Dean/Cas shippers for why Dean can’t get a love interest. They think he’s already betrothed to “his angel” and that the romantic relationship is actually canon. It would be cheating on his true love. *snorts*
Also about Sam, what the hell are you talking about always gets the romance? He hasn’t been in a real loving relationship since Jess died and that was more than 8 years ago! Put down your biased Dean goggles. Most of the recurring characters end up more Dean oriented and favor him over Sam. Both Bobby and Cas flat out said they favor Dean. It’s only fair that Sam finally gets a friend of his own and at least one person that cares about him more.
Agree with Wendy.
Why do the fans have to fight? Why not enjoy the show and everything that goes with it. I love all the characters. Yes Sam and Dean are my favourites, but each character has a place in the show. Dean was the last character to have a steady romantic relationship, Lisa anyone. Sam hasn’t had a steady romantic relationship since Ruby really. Even Ruby was really using Sam to help free Lucifer, but that is another thing all together. The point is neither guy has had a steady relationship in a long time. I am looking forward to this storyline and I am looking forward to the new season. I think things are going to be interesting. I don’t think this will be the last season either.
I agree with Wendy too.
Ok gotta say this first, my biggest yes to this season is that they’re bringing back the Impala!! Season seven’s finale had me saying ” Oh no, not the car :( “. As for the rest, I’m glad to see that Cas, Sam, and Dean will be back, also glad to see that they will be bringing in more characters. I think the influx of new blood will liven the story line. But I have a hunch that in the end it will always be Sam and Dean (+ the impala) back to back no matter what. I think that all of us SPN fans have trusted the story line for 7 seasons, and should again for season 8.
I just don’t believe that Sam wouldn’t at least try and find out what happen to Dean? It seems out of character. I am glad Sam is getting a girl but for him to disregard Dean like that after everything Dean has sacrificed for him, it doesn’t seem right. Excited Cass is back and I am interested to see and learn about Dean’s new friend.
