Looks like Rory O'Neill, aka Ms Panti Bliss, has another high profile supporter in the form of New York mayor Bill de Blasio.

The newly-elected mayor was showing his support for the 'St Pat's For All' parade in Queens.

Rory posted a Vine video clip on his Twitter account showing the pair - he also met with Hollywood actor and star of 'The Good Wife' Alan Cumming

Mr de Blasio's appearance at the parade comes just weeks after he announced he would not be attending the city's traditional parade over the exclusion of gay and lesbian groups.

Before jetting out to New York for his special guest appearance, Rory said: "I think they thought that symbolically it would be good to have Panti there, an avatar for the new Ireland."

He marched alongside all the New York City councillors whojoined Mayor Bill de Blasio in refusing to attend the parade on March 17, which An Taoiseach Enda Kenny is set to join.

Mr O'Neill said: "The Taoiseach said it's about Irishness and not sexuality, but the fact is -- that parade is denying LGBT Irish people their nationality."

The orator of the now viral 'Noble Call' speech will be joined by actor Alan Cumming who will contribute to a film about O'Neill's life to be aired here in 2015.
