IPCC AR5 Press Release: Oceans Ate “More Than 90% Of The Energy Accumulated Between 1971 And 2010”!

The IPCC has issued a press release on the release of the AR summary report for policymakers. You can find it here.

We are witnessing a disgraced science, one that is desperately clinging to catastrophe and relevance. The Summary Report for Policymakers (SPM) resembles an amateur magician’s show where everybody already knows all the tricks used to create the illusions. But the policymakers will act like they’ve seen the show for the first time.

The press release says “it is extremely likely that human influence has been the dominant cause of the observed warming since the mid-20th century“. The report fails to acknowledge that global temperatures have been at a standstill for the last 15 years, claiming rather that “each of the last three decades has been successively warmer at the Earth’s surface than any preceding decade since 1850” – a statistical sleight of hand.

In the Summary Report for Policymakers (SPM), the hockey stick chart disappears completely. There’s no mention of temperature conditions during the Little Ice Age and Medieval Warm Period. Almost all the charts shown in the SPM go back only to the 20th century, and thus provide an incomplete and misleading picture of historical temperature developments. The Medieval Period was as warm, if not warmer, than today’s temperature. Obviously the concept of the temperature hockey stick is an embarrassment that the IPCC is eager to relegate to the dustbin of history.

The SPM also completely neglects solar activity and its possible connection to the current global cooling taking place. In Figure SPM.5, the chart attributes practically no climate impact from the sun, although the historical data shows there’s a powerful correlation between solar activity and global temperature.

The IPCC also fails to report that global temperatures have not risen at all since the Third Assessment Report of 2001. Moreover, the chart comparing model projections to observations, which appeared in a draft report leaked late last year, disappeared in the new Summary Report for Policymakers.

CO2 climate sensitivity figures have also been scaled back. The IPCC now projects a warming of only 1.5°C or more over the 21st century. In the 2007 report that figure was 2°C and up.

The press release, however, insists that sea level rise will accelerate, later in the future. But until then we will just have to remain patient. Strangely the sea level projection chart on page 35 deletes the past, and begins only at 2008.

This is going to be an easy report to dismantle. Global warming “science” is on its last leg.

    First German “journalistic” attempts at creating panic trickle in;
    http://www.n-tv.de/wissen/Klimarat-warnt-vor-deutlich-hoeherem-Meeresspiegel-article11452271.html

new alarmism, same as the old alarmism. Unspecified “lobbyist” smears against skeptics; “Skeptics lose a battle” (because what? because the IPCC continues predicting doom. Oh.).

“The new IPCC report makes the same worrying predictions as the last one. And that is the frightening thing about it.” Yeah well, sure, we wouldn’t expect an apocalyptic religion to change its tune 90 years before the prophecied eschaton, would we.

    And here’s Bojanowski,

basically just translating the IPCC doom&gloom report verbatim without any added value / comment.

    First commenters all skeptics.

I just got this mail from Avaaz. It’s panic everywhere.

    ‘Dear friends,
In 24 hours, the world’s top scientists will release the most important report in decades: proving once and for all that climate change is a massive threat, but that government action now can stop catastrophe. It’s a global wake up call to save our planet, but big oil and dirty energy have a powerful bully who’s rallying to stop the truth from coming out.

Rupert Murdoch owns hundreds of major media outlets including ultra conservative Fox News and the Wall Street Journal, and he’s using his media power to help his oil buddies stop governments acting to curb their profits. In the US alone, a shocking 80% of climate stories from Murdoch’s select papers mislead readers about global warming! Now he’s set his sights on this groundbreaking report, and his media empire will dominate the conversation unless people around the world stand together and drown him out’. Etc.

Focus has verbatim panic article as well, commenters skeptical as well (bar one who blames “US denialist think tanks”). Some point out correctly the damage done to the reputation of science.

Comments I have read so far about this report leave me feeling disgusted. It is an affront to the practice of science.

Worse, those who do no know how science is performed according to the scientific method may start thinking that the global warming religion is, in fact, science.

    Horrible.

After the Press Briefing, David Rose of the Daily Mail articulated a very topical question, essentially: “How many more years of warming pause would it take before the IPCC would begin to reconsider the accuracy of its models?” [paraphrased].

Stocker and Jarraud then rattled off “dead-pan” how remarkably accurate their models actually were, without breaking character one iota?!

They should give Climate Oscars for such a performance.

Jarraud then proceeded to call Rose’s question “scientifically ill-posed” — methinks he actually meant “impertinent.” Both talked about how 30 years makes climate (not 15+). So I suppose we’ll have to wait until 2020 to see if temperature anomalies rise to their proper places (per the models since 1990). / sarc off.

When they say 30 years makes climate they are still illustrating their ignorance. In the last 120 years we have seen two complete temperature cycles, superimposed on the slow emergence from the little ice age, most of which was complete by 1930. There have been no 30 year periods of temperature stasis, ever. The current 15 to 17 year “halt” in warming is simply the top of the current cycle. The run up to this top wasn’t 30 years. The warmist argument that the current decade was the warmest ever is due to “adjustments” and UHI. We have poked so many holes in their arguments that their brains are leaking out. Their big problem now is that we are now cognizent of the adjustments, and they dare not do it any longer. If they can no longer cheat, the warming stops. UHI has had its day. Poorly sited ground stations can no longer be used. The only thing left to jigger is the satellite data, and we have some good people watching that. We will eventually grind them down.

So now the new talking point for the IPCC has become official: the oceans ate our homework. They really think they outsmart everyone else and can fool all the people all the time.
