UPDATE: WWII Vet – Removing Iwo Jima Memorial Barricades “Blew My Mind … It Was Great”

As Daniel Halper has reported, the Iwo Jima Memorial joins the list of monuments needlessly barricaded by the Obama administration, but that did not stop a group of veterans from removing the barricades to visit today.

(Related: Battle of the Barrycades – Vets storm Vietnam Memorial, U.S Park Police called in)

We have located the group of 64 Honor Flight Vets, and they are from Syracuse, NY.  Their trip was paid for, in part, by money raised by Syracuse University students.

“One more story to clarify what is cool. It’s about Ray Dollins, a fighter pilot at Iwo Jima.

The first wave of amtracs headed for shore. The Marine fighter planes were finishing up their low strafing runs. And as the last pilot began to pull his Corsair aloft, Japanese sprang to their guns and riddled the plane with flak.

The pilot, Major Ray Dollins, tried to gain altitude as he headed out over the ocean so as to avoid a deadly crash into the Marines headed for the beach, but his plane was too badly damaged. Lieutenant Keith Wells watched it from the amtrac. . . . “We could see him in the cockpit,” Wells said, “and he was trying everything. He was heading straight down for a group of approaching ’tracs filled with Marines. At the last second he flipped the plane over on its back and aimed it into the water between two waves of tanks. We watched the water exploding into the air.”

Military personnel listening to the flight radio network from the ships could not only see Dollins go down; they could hear his last words into his microphone. They were a defiant parody.

“Oh, what a beautiful morning,
Oh, what a beautiful day,
I’ve got a terrible feeling
Everything’s coming my way.”

Eight days previously, on the way to Iwo Jima, Dollins had received news of the birth of his first child, a daughter.

That baby girl would be 68 now. If she’s still alive, I’d like to here what she thinks about all this.

Thanks for posting that. Stories of heros help me to keep an honest perspective. I sleep in a soft bed, sometimes bleed when shaving, and suffer the ire of my kids when I say no.

Bush 41 went down bombing Chichi Jima. He and Bob Dole should be calling on the administration to knock off this crap.

    Triple ditto!

I would like to see somebody call out these park rangers for following orders, as well. They should be grossly ashamed of themselves.

It’s now become quite clear that National Memorials have to be administered by a independent foundation free of political control that is destroying the public’s faith in the National Park Service.

Radegunda in reply to Neo. | October 5, 2013 at 11:20 pm

Independent administration isn’t stopping Emperor Barry from forcibly shutting down anything with a marginal connection or resemblance to a national park. If it’s merely the parking lot that’s halfway government-owned, you’ll find armed guards threatening you with arrest.

[…] are going to go see their war monuments whether you and the rest of the Democratic party likes it, or […]

“Making Life Difficult For Americans”: Obama’s IRS Bullies Still Collecting Money, Shut Down Refunds
Posted by Andrea Ryan on Saturday, October 5, 2013, 3:59 PM

IRS 2

The IRS is officially closed. But that only applies to issuing tax refunds owed to Americans and responding to Congressional subpoenas investigating the agency’s criminal behavior. Obama kept enough of it open to make sure his Army of Bullies keeps collecting your taxes. Because, as the Park Service ranger said about Obama’s “disgusting” tactics, “We’ve been told to make life as difficult for people as we can.”

Via Lucianne, The Washington Times reports,

The IRS is still collecting taxes during the government shutdown, but it isn’t sending refunds — and it also has stopped complying with a subpoena to turn over documents to members of Congress who are investigating the agency’s targeting of tea party groups.

The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee and the House Ways and Means Committee have stopped getting documents from the Internal Revenue Service.

“The IRS has indicated to the committee that their furlough decisions will affect the agency’s responsiveness to committee requests, including the outstanding subpoena,” said Ali Ahmad, a spokesman for the oversight committee. …

“Individuals and businesses should keep filing their tax returns and making deposits with the IRS, as they are required to do so by law,” the agency said in its guidance for taxpayers. “The IRS will accept and process all tax returns with payments, but will be unable to issue refunds during this time.”

Two Liberal Media Giants Call Obama Administration ‘Most Closed, Control-Freak, Manipulative, And Secretive’ Ever Covered
Posted by Andrea Ryan on Saturday, October 5, 2013, 2:59 PM

Obama

The most Liberal operators in the media are calling out Obama for the creepy, scheming manipulator that he is.

A New York Times reporter called our transparent president the “most closed, control-freak administration I’ve ever covered.” Add paranoid. Government employees are forced to take lie detector tests to ensure they’re not talking to reporters.

Big Lib, Bob Schieffer, of CBS News agreed. But he used the words the “most manipulative and secretive administration“ he’s ever covered.

Hot Air reports,

Remember when the media rushed to talk about transparency in the Barack Obama “Hope and Change” era? Good times, good times. Leonard Downie, who once worked as the executive editor of the Washington Post and wrote a novel about Washington corruption and the Iraq War, finds a bigger and non-fictional problem in the successor to George W. Bush. Downie gives the Post a preview of his report from the Committee to Protect Journalists which outlines the Obama war on reporters and their sources:

“A memo went out from the chief of staff a year ago to White House employees and the intelligence agencies that told people to freeze and retain any e-mail, and presumably phone logs, of communications with me,” Sanger said. As a result, longtime sources no longer talk to him. “They tell me: ‘David, I love you, but don’t e-mail me. Let’s don’t chat until this blows over.’ ”

Sanger, who has worked for the Times in Washington for two decades, said, “This is most closed, control-freak administration I’ve ever covered.”

Many leak investigations include lie-detector tests for government officials with access to the information at issue. “Reporters are interviewing sources through intermediaries now,” Barr told me, “so the sources can truthfully answer on polygraphs that they didn’t talk to reporters.”

The investigations have been “a kind of slap in the face” for reporters and their sources, said Smith of the Center for Public Integrity. “It means you have to use extraordinary measures for contacts with officials speaking without authorization.”

Amusingly, Downie posits this question at the end of the essay:

Will Obama recognize that all this threatens his often-stated but unfulfilled goal of making government more transparent and accountable? None of the Washington news media veterans I talked to were optimistic.

“Whenever I’m asked what is the most manipulative and secretive administration I’ve covered, I always say it’s the one in office now,” Bob Schieffer, CBS News anchor and chief Washington correspondent, told me.

There you have it.

We are required by law to remit taxes.. on time and the IRS is required by law to comply with a subpoena… ON TIME.

..wouldn’t be surprised if OBOZO had more German Shepherds (HOW APPROPRIATE for this regime!) sent in to attack and maul the veterans.

Sorry.. I only meant to post the Calling all Patriots. If anyone knows how to remove the rest……. please do. My apologies.

Use a text editor next time cuz sometimes when you got for a piece you get all, then just select and copy the piece you want to post. Or just paste into the comment box and select and delete the stuff you don’t want.

    It was interesting readng though.

Where are candidates Hillary and Elizabeth, in helping to block those crazy vets from seeing their memorials? Warren says it is the “anarchists” keeping our veterans out.

My father is writing a book about a WWII fighter Ace:

LT (JG) FRANCIS R. REGISTER, USNR

This man was North Dakota’s first Ace fighter at Guadalcanal. It will be an interesting read once my father finishes the book.

Truly, after reading stories like these, it is no wonder they are called “The Greatest Generation”

Today, instead, we have the “Most Worthless Generation” (Debt ridden and otherwise).

Great good shakes, that they moved the water barry-cades. Hat tip to them.

And thanks for this post, Professor. Alot going on, this makes it easier to keep up.

As wrong as it is, what is happening in our country today, those men look really happy! They had to have felt really great, not just for getting together and visiting the memorial, but in taking action and beating yet another fascist challenge/obstacle that was in their way and making it to their objective today!

HOORAH!!!

Something just occurred to me.

How long before the great O goes after section 8 housing?

Nope, that will never happen. That would be attacking his own base.

[…] Jacobson at Legal Insurrection has up a great post today on “Video: Meet Vets who moved “water-filled barriers” to get to Iwo Jima Memorial.” […]

Closing national monuments and parks is an asinine act by an asinine administration. Closing off parts of the open ocean to commerce is entirely another thing. Follow this now.

By definition, cutting off access to a port or to any area of ocean to normal commerce, for example, fishing, is, under international law and treaty and U.S. law, establishing a blockade. Obama has ordered the Florida Bay to be closed. As well as prohibiting fishing in Biscayne National Park. And has sent vessels to support this closure. IOW, he has established a blockade.

A blockade, again by definition, is an act of war. So, Obama, by definition, has committed an act of war.

Against what enemy has Obama committed this act of war? The American people.

This is all by simple definition. And is really kind of cut and dried. It would make a great first article of impeachment- “He has committed war against the American people.” I’d love to see his defenders tying themselves in knots trying to show that the definitions aren’t real, and that a closure of the ocean enforced by force isn’t really a blockade.

[…] hope they get close to 1 million to turn out. Legal Insurrection has more on some of the […]

I don’t say this lightly, just to be obnoxious or flip:

Every day this goes on, Obama proves his capacity to be a dictator.

Further, he reaffirms why the adjective “ruthless” is often prefaced.

Now that that is out of the way, I’d like to make another disturbing observation.

From cones and barricades along highways, to pastors and priests threatened with arrest..to oceans being closed, even to those that just paddle….

Why is it only 90 yr. olds in wheelchairs are the ones braves enough to engage in righteous civil disobedience??

turfmann in reply to Browndog. | October 5, 2013 at 8:21 pm

Your comment may have been flippant back in 2008 (I was already saying such things back then, but that’s another story) but they are not flippant today by any means.

There is no provision in the Constitution of the United States that supports a dictator.

Either the Constitution reigns supreme, or it does not.

This administration is not interested in upholding its oath to protect and defend the Constitution against all enemies. Never mind the foreign, we have a domestic enemy.

Obama MUST be removed from office, and the consequence of doing so must be played out.

That means that we will have to endure the worst bloodshed in this land since the Civil War.

But there is no escaping it. The die has been cast and the metal must be poured into it.

Remember that the Founders and their supporters only numbered roughly one-third of the population at the time of the Revolution.

If you love your country, you must realize that at certain points in her history rough men have had to take up arms so that we may all sleep soundly.

That time has come again, my friends.

Put your faith in God that He may guide you in our quest to reclaim our nation from the forces of evil.

And in case you were wondering – Barack Obama is the Devil made flesh upon the Earth.

    Act accordingly.

Juba Doobai! in reply to Browndog. | October 5, 2013 at 9:21 pm

The Boomers are mostly socialist and approve of O. The X, Y, Z are mostly miseducated, propagandized, and ignorant recipients of government largesse via unemployment, welfare, food stamps, and Medicaid. They like their boat and don’t want to rock it.

All that remains is the TP from across all age, racial, social, and faith lines. Obama and the Democrats have divided this country so badly that young democrats stand for the president and not the country or the Constitution. The WWII generation understand freedom in a way that X, Y, Z do not.

Radegunda in reply to Browndog. | October 5, 2013 at 11:37 pm

A couple of days ago, someone said I was indulging in “the worst kind” of conspiracy-mongering by suggesting that “a sitting president” might have applied heavy pressure to a S.C. Justice behind the scenes to induce him to do what the president wanted, at the same time as the president was openly warning the Court to do what he wanted.

First, why should “a sitting president” by immune from a suspicion of unethical action? The premise that attaining a position of huge power would render someone unlikely to abuse power is nonsensical. It’s especially nonsensical in the case of a president who openly scorns limits on his power.

In view of the bizarre and nasty measures Obama takes quite openly to protect his takeover of our medical care — and in view of his radical roots — it is entirely believable that he (or ValJar) applied heavy pressure secretly to uphold it.

And in view of his ferocious determination to protect the ACA, it’s clearly about much more than health care, and even about more than Obama’s ego (though it’s hard sometimes to imagine anything bigger than that).

God Bless the Veterans.

There is a dark comedy at work here.

Someone thought a hand-full of Park Service people in straw Smokey Bear hats would daunt the same hearts that took Mount Suribachi with what water they carried and little else.

Many of them going on to Chosin Reservoir.

They just have no idea who these men are.

Someone as talented as the person who did the Captain Kirk meets Miley Cyrus needs to cut the photos of the Park Service employees with the dogs at the War memorials with the iconic shots of the dogs beings sicced on black demonstrators in Birmingham at the peak of the Civil Rights fight.

Yup, Browndog. We’re watching an “early invocation” of the Government flipping off the People. Up next? What happens if ObamaCare doesn’t sell? What if the government has to force people to join? Water Barrycades isn’t going to be enough.

What do you think it will look like, ahead?

And, isn’t it possible the government is focussing so much of its attention to perform tricks for the media? Because, otherwise, it would be noticed ObamaCare isn’t exactly “flying off the shelves.” What if some magic “minimum” is not met? (Discount those who “take” because they cannot afford any health care.)

I’ve also read that what floors people, after they go through the whole rigamarole of “enlisting,” that after they input ALL their personal information … the last thing they can access is PRICE. And, many people are floored to learn the PRICE is 300% higher than their current plans. Plus, they’ve got higher deductibles.

PICTURE CHRISTMAS! Picture what the government then tries to do. Just in case ObamaCare FAILS to meet its goals.

DriveBy in reply to Carol Herman. | October 5, 2013 at 9:26 pm

    PICTURE CHRISTMAS!

You mean that they “close” Thanksgiving and Christmas? They are both federal holidays. Can you imagine barrycades around all of the Christmas trees in every living room in America? Maybe I shouldn’t post this, it might give Him ideas.

I haven’t heard “rigamarole” since I was a kid.

I’m trying to figure out just when the National Park Service Rangers became Obama’s brownshirts, boots and all.

Nothing with this administration is about politics, it’s far worse than that. The idea that we have a president who literally despises the American people is incomprehensible.

NC Mountain Girl in reply to Lady Penguin. | October 6, 2013 at 9:51 am

The National Park Service has had issues for decades. The senior people often live like kings. Check out the hierarchy of federal housing for Park Service employees at Yellowstone some time. These bureaucrats start to think of the parks as their own property and the remote parks can become little fiefdoms all their own. That mentality gets carried over to the senior people in Washington. The result can be some very nasty people.

The problem for the little guys in the Park Service is there simply aren’t comparable private sector jobs, nor do the state park services pay as well. This reinforces the do as you’re told mentality in this agency.

These are the people who beat Hitler and Tojo. They’re at the end of their lives, and have nothing to lose.

More power to them.
