TV options still open for Iowa-Nebraska
Jul. 29, 2014 12:39 pm
CHICAGO - The potential for an Iowa-Nebraska showdown for the Big Ten's West Division title has ABC keeping an open mind on the game's time slot this fall.
The now annual 'Black Friday” game between the border opponents is set for Nov. 28 at Kinnick Stadium. It falls under ABC's 6-to-12-day scheduling window this season, Big Ten senior associate commissioner Mark Rudner said today. Neither the time slot nor the network is confirmed for that day's game. The teams' three previous Big Ten meetings aired on ABC.
Usually, the time slot and the network for the game was set by late spring. From 2011-2013, the time was set at 11 a.m. and announced between May 24 and June 7.
This year, there are 15 games scheduled for Black Friday, and six have their viewing options set. The most prominent matchups include Arkansas at Missouri (1:30 p.m. CBS), Stanford at UCLA (2:30 p.m. ABC) and Arizona State at Arizona (3:30 p.m. Fox). The only other game involving major-conference opponents that day is Virginia at Virginia Tech.
The ESPN family of networks aired four college football games the day after Thanksgiving last year, with ABC broadcasting Iowa-Nebraska followed by Miami-Pittsburgh. American Athletic Conference games appeared on ESPN and ESPN2. Fox- and CBS-affiliated networks aired six other games with 16 total played that day.
Nebraska has played annually on Black Friday since 1990. After joining the Big Ten in 2011, the Cornhuskers and Hawkeyes have ended their seasons against one another the day after Thanksgiving. Nebraska won the first two meetings 20-7 and 13-7, respectively, while Iowa won 38-17 last year.
