‘Godfather of Make-Up’ Dick Smith Dies at 92.

6a00e54ecdd7d788330168e612ae92970c-piThis morning it was announced by Dick Smith’s friend and former apprentice, Rick Baker, that ‘The Godfather of Make-up’ Dick Smith has passed away. As of right now an official cause of death hasn’t been issued, but he lived a long life to the age of 92.

He is recognized for being one of the first important make-up and special effects artists. His work was world renounced and it earned him 2 Oscars, 1 Emmy Award, and 1 BAFTA Award. His most noteworthy credits – both horror/scifi and big Hollywood related – are as follows:

Alice in Wonderland (1955), The Alligator People (1959), Miracle on 34th Street (1959), “Dark Shadows” (1967), The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1968), The Godfather (1972), The Exorcist (1973), The Godfather Part II (1974), The Stepford Wives (1975), Taxi Driver (1976), Exorcist II: The Heretic (1977), Scanners (1981), Ghost Story (1981), Spasms (1983), Poltergeist III (1988), Tales From the Darkside: The Movie (1990), “Monsters” (1988-1991), Death Becomes Her (1992), and House on Haunted Hill (1999).
