Igor Girkin, the pro-Russian Ukranian separatist leader who is one of the suspects in the downing of MH17 in Eastern Ukraine two weeks ago has been linked to the massacre of over 3,000 Bosnian Muslims during the Bosnian war in 1992.

According to an article published by International Business Times and sent out by the Ukranian embassy in Malaysia, Igor was part of the Serbian aggression in Visegrad against Bosnian Muslims.

Girkin, a veteran of both the Soviet and Russian armies, had been photographed in Visegrad before, and the article said that some former colleagues of Igor have confirmed that he was part of the Serbian aggression.

"Bosnian media published a picture of Strelkov (Girkin) in Visegrad along with an account from a retired army officer, Aziz Tafro, who confirmed that the Russian nationalist took part in the Serbian aggression in Bosnia," the article said.

Girkin is one of the prime suspects over the downing of the Boeing 777, amidst allegations that he had "boasted" about shooting down an airplane before realising that the target was actually a civilian airplane.

The Ukranian government had released recordings allegedly implicating Girkin, but the recordings have not been independently verified.
