An engineering company in Co Londonderry is continuing a winning streak as it celebrates another major accolade for its personnel practice.

SJC Hutchinson Engineering was awarded the title of best newcomer in the first Investors in People (IIP) awards in London.

The accolade follows managing director Mark Hutchinson's young businessperson of the year award in the Belfast Telegraph's Business Awards 2014.

He has also been shortlisted in the Northern Ireland heat of the EY Entrepreneur of the Year Awards 2014.

The family business was founded in 1971 and now employs around 85 people, specialising in laser cutting, folding, fabrication, kitting and design services for a wide range of sectors from aerospace to agriculture.

Mr Hutchinson said it was "absolutely delighted" with the latest trophy for the company, and said Coleraine Borough Council had played a big role in the company's win.

"The council's Investors in People business improvement programme played a major role in our initial IiP bronze accreditation in addition to this great accolade as best newcomer," he said.

"It means a lot to be recognised for our good work, and we're looking forward to continuing to work with Investors in People to improve and grow our business."

The best newcomer award recognises a newly-accredited company which has demonstrated immediate benefits since its accreditation.

Hutchinson had been shortlisted along with Gopher Money, Kelda Water Services, Pastdue Credit Solutions and Wulvern Housing, and was presented with the award by comedian and actor Hugh Dennis at the ceremony last month.

Coleraine mayor George Duddy said: "We are delighted that one of the first companies to engage in our IiP programme has gained such success and recognition.

"A dedicated team of officers are working on a programme of opportunities for businesses to avail of. This is a great example of what can be achieved."

The company recently launched specialist division Hutchinson AeroTech, based in Antrim.
