Reflection

Edinburgh Award, Third Space
Edinburgh Award in Global Citizenship

The Edinburgh Award rewards students for taking part in activities alongside their studies like volunteering, part-time work, and getting involved in the University community. This version of the Edinburgh Award is designed to recognise students who play an active role in empowering others to feel a part of and understand their place in a community of global citizens.

Third Space

Third Space is a new series of activities which wrap around students’ international experiences giving them the tools to explore, reflect, engage, and share culture during the different stages of their time away. Activities include a bon voyage retreat, workbook of cultural activities, and a welcome home conference. For the pilot, 40 students on their third year abroad will be eligible for the Edinburgh Award.

Tandem Language Programme

Tandem is EUSA’s popular language exchange programme. It is designed to help students and staff meet people and learn languages in a fun, relaxed, social environment without tutors, exams or lectures.

There are many ways to enage with Tandem - online, our weekly Language Cafe and English Cafe and our monthly Speed Lingua events.

What are the Barriers?

These activities are based on the barriers Edinburgh has identified - such as international student support, lack of community, lack of channels for making change, lack of opportunities to reflect, lack of opportunities to share language, labelling students
