On becoming self aware

Becoming self aware and more awake brings you closer to the real you

What is self-awareness? How can you get more of it? Being self-aware means you don’t live in the past and attribute all of today’s adversities to what happened to you way-back-when. Being aware means you can make decisions for today and not stress about tomorrow or think there’s some better place to be than where you are. People who work on building up their own awareness make great efforts to tame the ego. Taming the ego means thinking before responding. Those who have a high self-awareness are conscious about how they react to something and choose behaviors that are productive, calm and non-attacking. The real self wants everyone to win. The ego wants to be right and will fight for it at any cost. When we choose to look inside ourselves for answers it serves us well. We make better decisions that sooth the mind, body and soul. However, the ego only shops outside itself because the real you threatens the ego, it doesn’t need the ego to feel the fullness of life. Knowing how to be intimate with the real self is a task, but can be done once you know just how destructive the ego can be.  The next time someone pushes your button or gets you all worked-up, tell your false self, the ego, to take the back seat. Let your real, thoughtful self come forth and take on the challenge. You may be pleasantly surprised.
