From Paris with love

SUPREMO - Tim Yap - The Philippine Star

Oa blazing hot afternoon, Paris Hilton blazes in and ignites the room instantly. A row of teenagers await their turn to have photos with her. Cameras are everywhere with every network waiting for their turn with the blonde working heiress. The hot blonde is back, and this time she’s here to do something different.

“Real estate runs in my blood,” Paris looks around and inspects the function room of The Paris Beach Club. “This is probably the one project I’m most proud about. I can’t believe how fast the project was accomplished!”

Across the room’s balcony is a beach club with a massive setup. A giant DJ’s booth rests on the center of a 50-meter wave pool that cuts across a lap pool that faces a man-made beach. “Where will the people be dancing?” Now if you heard this from Paris Hilton without really knowing what she’s all about, you’d easily dismiss it as some airhead comment from someone who’s had everything laid out in front of her. Not Paris.

You must remember that the person who faces you is not the same celebutante that faced the media fresh from the party scene, just posing away under a character that the media likes to gloss over, and that’s that. Leave that to the other reality stars. The Paris Hilton that is right in front of me is an adult, sure of herself and her audience. She knows she has to perform, but she knows how to remain true to herself. She is an artist who plays music to a wide range of audiences. She is an entrepreneur, in charge of several enterprises bearing her name. She is the brains behind a global brand.

Paris past, present and future

“Yes, I could have been a trust fund kid and not worked a day in my life, but it’s not like that at all,” she famously said in her OK! interview. “I started modeling at 16, making my own money, and from there I started building my brand,” Paris recalls her beginnings.

“I have a lot of energy. I’m an Aquarius, that’s how I am. I like to be creative. I like to just keep on doing more and more.” Paris’ self assurance is disarming as it is refreshing. She is also arrestingly gorgeous and one can’t help but stare into her eyes.

I’m supposed to talk to her about her new property, her collaboration with Century Properties, but I made my own ocular inspection, amazed at the sights, sounds and scents that I experienced while Paris was cutting the ribbon to welcome the new residents  of Azure. I then shift the conversation to talk about her other love — music. What is the genre of music that Paris Hilton the DJ plays?

“The new sound for my album is electro-pop music. I love electro and I love pop so I put the two together. A lot of fun, high-energy music. I’ve played at Ibiza and all other music festivals all over the world, and so I’m here now. It’s gonna be a lot of fun.” She says this in a friendly, matter-of-fact tone that communicates “take my word for it.”

What were Paris’ most unforgettable DJ gigs and how did she get into this?

“Probably one of the most exciting for me was the moment I got my DJ residency at Amnesia in Ibiza. That was such an honor because that’s one of the most legendary clubs in the world. All of the biggest DJs play there, so it was amazing to play there every single week to sold-out crowds. Everyone was going crazy — all 10,000 people. It was such an amazing feeling and I’ve been touring all around the world, playing in every country and having the time of my life!”

Paris the DJ

Paris has been very present in the global club scene, appearing in several clubs and then hosting, so the club owners all of a sudden asked her, “Why don’t you DJ and host at the same time?” “And so I agreed to it, like three years ago, and now it’s completely taken off, and I’m playing in the biggest shows and in the biggest music festivals all over the world.”

“I want people to walk in and know that it’s something that I designed.”

“This is going to be the first of many of my real estate projects. It feels great to be following in my family’s footsteps.” You think that’s it for Paris? Guess again.

Paris takes a deep breath and then continues. “I’m about to launch my 16th fragrance, my second album and I’m writing a new book. I’m always keeping busy.” I ask for a few hints on what the new book is all about. “It’s gonna be about love and dating.”

And so I ask Paris Hitlon the love expert for a few tips  about love and dating. “Find someone who is your best friend. Someone who you can love and trust. And do something amazing for the world.”

And has she found this man? I look at her with knowing, winking, inquisitive eyes.

“Yeah,” she says with a shrug of her right shoulder, and you immediately know that the Paris Hilton in front of you is on a different high.
