Depression Not for Profit beyondblue has chosen Georgie Harman out of more than 70 candidates to lead the organisation as Chief Executive Officer.

Georgie Harman will take over as Chief Executive Officer of beyondblue in early May.

Harman is currently Deputy CEO of the National Mental Health Commission and has had an extensive career in the public service and the community and Not for Profit sectors.

Her experience includes working for the Federal Departments of Health and Ageing, and Health and Community Services, the Bobby Goldsmith Foundation and Crusaid.

beyondblue Chairman Jeff Kennett said beyondblue was fortunate that a candidate with a good knowledge of beyondblue and a broad background in government and the mental health sector offered herself for the position.

“After interviewing the final three candidates yesterday morning, the Board unanimously selected Georgie for the role,” he said.

Kennett said that the Board thanked current CEO Kate Carnell AO for her outstanding service to the organisation.

“Kate has left the organisation in a much stronger position than when she arrived, and it is well placed to continue its work in the future,” he said.

Carnell will take up the role of CEO of the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI).

Harman, who will start her new role in early May, said that she was very excited to take up this new position.

“beyondblue is a wonderful organisation that has huge potential to continue making a significant difference to those affected by mental health issues,” she said.

“I am looking forward to working with Jeff Kennett and the Board of beyondblue together with the staff on behalf of all Australians.”
