MLB’s PITCH, HIT & RUN Coming to Battle Creek

Battle Creek, Mich. – This May 3rd, the Battle Creek Bombers are teaming up with Battle Creek Parks and Recreation Department and the Battle Creek YMCA to bring Major League Baseball’s Pitch, Hit & Run Competition to C.O. Brown Stadium. Free to all girls and boys 7-14 years of age, registration for the competition will begin at 10:00am at the stadium and the event will follow at 11:00am.

Pitch, Hit & Run is a completely free youth program in which local participants can compete against the best local talent with their pitching, hitting, and running abilities. All girls and boys ages 7-14 are welcome to sign up for the event, which is slated to begin at 11:00am. Participants are encouraged to pre-register online at www.mlb.com/phr, there will also be registration available the day of the event. It is also important to note that each participant must provide valid copy of their birth certificate for age verification.

Girls and Boys divisions will compete separately and will be divided into the four age groups: 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14.  Children will be assigned to age groups based on their age on the date of July 17, 2014.

Kids will test their skills with hitting, pitching and speed challenges, earning them points based on performance. Winners from each local event can qualify to compete at a sectional event where winners could participate at the 2014 All-Star Game at Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

All local baseball and softball participants are encouraged to participate. All participants are encouraged to register early by visiting the Pitch, Hit and Run website www.mlb.com/phr, pick up a flyer at the Battle Creek Parks and Recreation Department offices located at 35 Hamblin Avenue, the Battle Creek YMCA located at 182 Capital Ave N.E. or the Battle Creek Bombers front office at 189 Bridge Street. The Battle Creek Bombers are a member of the finest developmental league for elite college baseball players, the Northwoods League. Playing its 21st season of summer collegiate baseball, the Northwoods League is the largest organized baseball league in the world with 18 teams, drawing significantly more fans, in a friendly ballpark experience, than any league of its kind. A valuable training ground for coaches, umpires and front office staff, more than 115 Northwoods League players have advanced to Major League Baseball, including Cy Young Award winner Max Scherzer (DET) and MLB All-Stars Chris Sale (CWS), Jordan Zimmermann (WAS), Curtis Granderson (NYM), Allen Craig (STL) and Ben Zobrist (TB).
