IRAQ’s South Gas Club Sports ended the quarterfinal hopes of Mongolia’s Altain Bars on Saturday, allowing the Philippines to move into the round of eight of the Asian Men's Club Volleyball Championship at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The Iraq side came up with a 25-12, 25-17, 23-25, 25-15 victory to top its group play with a 2-0 win-loss card as the Power Pinoys also marched on to the quarterfinals after a split of its two matches, while winless Mongolia finishes with a 0-2 card.
Bulgarian reinforcement Ananiev Metodi Aleksandaron led the way for the Iraq side as he erupted with 26 points from 19 spikes and seven of Iraq's 13 service aces.
Gani Hussein Mustafa added 12 and Nasser Aseel Jameel chipped in 10 for South Gas Club Sports, which made quick work of Philippines TVolution in 73 minutes and Mongolia in one hour and 24 minutes.
“Good for me, I'm in position number one in Pool A,” said Iraq coach Khalaf Abdul Sa Alaa.
“The two games are training for next game,” he added. “This group is very normal.”
Sa Alaa shuffled his rotation in the third set, sending in reserves Mohammed Ali Hussein and Hadad Husam Abdulamad, losing the set but just narrowly.
“I really try to use all my players, in the third set I change my middle blocker and setter,” said Sa Alaa.
Saikhanbaatar Erdenebat came up with 15 points for Altain Bars, while Tuvshintuguldur Adiyasuren added 11.
