well technically, our family income may actually put us marginally above that (actually, we are probably just below the top 2%). We both have secure government jobs with good benefits, including a defined benefit pension.
But there is no doubt where our allegiance lies.
We are both union activists, me as lead union rep for more than 110 teachers in my building, she on the negotiating team for her local bargaining unit in the Federal government.
We both strongly support the rights of people to protest under the 1st Amendment, and are shocked that Democratic office holders like Andrew Cuomo and Rahm Emanuel seek to suppress such expression under the guise of "public order."
Policemen, please note - you are supposed to uphold the Constitution, and the rights of the people under the Bill of Rights. You should not be our enemies, but our allies - do not allow yourselves to be used buy the wealthy to crush the spirit and the will of the American people.
News media - you have your First Amendment protections not to advance the interests of the wealthy and the powerful, but to help hold them accountable, first to public opinion and then to the law and the the government that should be of the people, by the people and for the people.
Political officials and candidates - remember that We the People are the owners of the government, and no matter how much the wealthy and the powerful will seek to distort the political processes, ultimately you will be answerable to us, to We the People, to the 99%.
There can be no neutrals in this conflict.
You must choose sides.
Are you with the 1%, or the 99%?
I am the 99%.
What about you?
