Orlando Is Site of 2014 General Assembly

The city of Orlando, Florida, will once again host delegates from around the globe for the biennial Church of God International General Assembly.

GA2014 will be held on July 29 – August 1, 2014 at the Orange County Convention Center. This will be the third consecutive time the General Assembly has been held in Orlando and will be the 75th time the Church of God has gathered for a General Assembly.

Meetings where the denominational constituency has been coming together began more than 100 years ago when 21 delegates gathered in a home in southeast Tennessee, near the North Carolina border. The general assembly was held every year until the mid-1940s, and has been conducted every two years since that time.

Through the years the Church of God General Assembly has been hosted by some of the nation’s largest cities, including Memphis, Dallas, Ft. Worth, San Antonio, Atlanta, Indianapolis, Kansas City and New Orleans. Due to the number of delegates who attend, the number of cities with convention and hotel facilities able to accommodate the event are limited.

“Orlando has been a good fit for us and the city has been accommodating,” stated Scot Carter, director of Church of God Communications and director of the general assembly. “The Orange County Convention Center is large enough and has break-out space for exhibits and events that is easily accessible. There are also two hotels connected to the OCCC with enough rooms to house our delegates. All of these are critical, deciding factors in choosing a destination.”

Preliminary preparations are already underway for the 75th General Assembly. The Council of Eighteen will begin deliberations on a General Council agenda this fall and complete it in spring 2014 prior to a release to ordained bishops in April 2014. Announcements of special speakers and events will be announced late this year or early 2014, with a website dedicated to the event to be unveiled in January 2014.
