Appointment to Run Through February 2017

PHILADELPHIA, Sept. 12, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Michael A. Rashid, president and chief executive officer of AmeriHealth Caritas Family of Companies, a national leader in Medicaid managed care and other health care solutions for those most in need, has been appointed to the National Advisory Council on Minority Health and Health Disparities of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). AmeriHealth Caritas is a majority-owned subsidiary of Independence Blue Cross; Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan holds a minority interest.

The appointment was made by United States Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius and will run through February 28, 2017.
