Director approves of Lee's Oldboy

Spike Lee is at the helm of the Oldboy remake

Spike Lee will bring a "fresh" perspective to Oldboy, Korean director Park Chan-Wook has said.

The Stoker filmmaker, who directed the original film, is excited to see how the American filmmaker will interpret the movie and make it his own.

"First of all, when I first heard the news, my initial reaction was of surprise because I thought Spike Lee was the last person to do this remake," he admitted.

"But after that, I was amazed at this choice because it would mean that the Oldboy remake would be seen through fresh eyes, rather than if they had chosen a director that only directs thrillers. He would bring in a very fresh, new perspective to the material."

Josh Brolin and Elizabeth Olsen have signed on for the English-language version, which is expected to be released later this year.

Director Park, as he is known, added: "I consider it very, very good news. The cast is amazing with Josh Brolin and Elizabeth Olsen so I can't wait to see it."
