Golf: Chabon, Fortuna finish runners-up at Las Vegas Juniors Masters

Filipinas Sofia Chabon and Mikhaela Fortuna of Team ICTSI finished tied as runners-up to Karah Sanford in the girls’ 11-12 years old division at the close of the Las Vegas Juniors Masters at the Angel Park Golf Club’s par 70 Palms course in Nevada.

After taking a one-stroke lead in the second round of the 54-hole championship, Fortuna shot a three-under-par 67 for 196, to fall into a tie with Chabon, who had a five-under-par 65. That allowed Sanford to overtake them with a last round 63 for a 195 total.

In the girls 13-14, Abegail Arevalo settled for fourth place with a 220 after a 72. Thailand’s Paphankorn Tawatanakit topped the field with a 68 for 204. Bella Sefio (69-211) and Ribka Varia Hie (76-217) were runners-up.

Over at Fort Wayne, Indiana, Pauline del Rosario and Princess Superal, both from ICTSI, failed to advance to the round of 16 in the 65th US Girls Juniors Championship.

Del Rosario lost a 3 & 2 decision against Cheyenne Knight, while Superal was defeated by Gabriella Then, 1-up, at the Sycamore Hills Golf Club. - RAF, GMA News
