THR broke tradition and invited two stars from the same movie to participate in the first awards roundtable of the season — Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer of The Help.
The Shame co-star says of her nude scenes in the film. "I've never wanted to take my clothes off and be sexy. I'm horribly afraid."
Mulligan wears a Fendi dress, Ferragamo shoes.
The Help star Viola Davis receives a warm embrace from Young Adult leading lady, Charlize Theron.
Albert Nobbs star Glenn Close on personal criticism: "They usually don't say nasty things to my face. Well, they do say, 'You look much better in life than you do in film."
The Oscar contenders are (L-R): Glenn Close for Albert Nobbs, Michelle Williams for My Week With Marilyn, Octavia Spencer for The Help and Carey Mulligan for Shame and possibly Drive.
Michelle Williams' secret to acting opposite someone she doesn't find authentic? "I erase their face and put someone else there," she tells THR.
To play the screen siren in My Week With Marilyn, Williams combed through loads of material. She tells THR, "I feel like I finally learned how to use my computer for good and not evil. It because such a resource. And YouTube — I have a whole new appreciation for it."
The Help's Octavia Spencer is uncomfortable seeing her own work. She says, "When you watch yourself, it really does take you out of the purity of that world that you create."
"I never think anything I do is good," Octavia Spencer tell THR. "I'm always going to think it's bad. I'm always going to think I should have gone deeper."
The actress tells THR, "I love and hate the word 'dignity.' It's overused for black actresses, as with 'sassy' and 'soulful.'"
