Green Lantern is gay now, DC Comics announced today. Not Hal Jordan, though — Alan Scott, the OG Green Lantern, is gay in the new Earth Two comic-book series. Historically, Scott has been a pretty old-fashioned, hunky-dory kind of Golden Age guy, who eventually the proud, supportive father of a gay son, Obsidian. But thanks to the Great DC Reboot of 2012, Alan Scott is now in his twenties again, so there’s no Obsidian to speak of, and thus Earth Two writer James Robinson decided to make Scott gay. Between Green Lantern and Batwoman, queer visibility in comic books is now moving at a marginally-better-than-glacial pace.
