We share this planet with seven billion others. What is our relationship with them? Are we a single unity? Do we belong to one of many tribal divisions? Are we individuals in a planet full of individuality? There is, of course, no single answer to these fundamental questions. Our sense of identity and diversity depends on context. But the way we conceive of our place among the people of the world has profound social, environmental, political, and ethical implications. The GoodPlanet Foundation asked people from all over the world a series of standard questions about the things they value. The survey examines their hopes, dreams, fears, and grounding principles. In bearing witness to the answers, the project allows us to explore the depth of our human commonality against the superficial visual and linguistic signs of difference. These sound-bites provide points of connection between ourselves and others.

Although, this kind of commodity is very rare product in the present materialistic world, yet one should not give up and instead keep on searching for it.     The commonality of our species is a sacred, beautiful, and inspirational "tidbit" that could solve world problems overnight. We but need to recognize it, accept it, embrace it. We are the same species with the same fate, no matter what "expert" may claim otherwise. The military is a truly major problem, but I believe Mark Twain had the answer [paraphrased]: My main objection to the military is that I like to get to know people before I want to kill them--who amongst us can't relate to this? But if you truly get to know somebody, and to understand them, you will feel much less like killing them.

    I laughed and fell in love with each person. Thanks! How lucky we are to be alive at all on this amazing, miraculous planet as we spin through the universe! We have a chance take care of each other and the diversity alive here. Climate change is happening now, yet some people don't have the opportunity to recognize the problem, and this re-inspired my wish to take action. Plus, chances for random acts of kindness abound: a smile to a stranger, a dollar, meal, or sigh together over the sunset, all loving gestures, bring hope, peace, interconnection.

    The whole video touched and inspired me but two people - and what they said - touched me in particular. There was a woman who may have been from a South American country who said that if people change the world will will change - but you have to start by changing yourself; otherwise the world will stay the same. And then there was the woman who asked if the listener had told anyone that they loved them yet today - and then said that if you hadn't you should do so right away. I cried at that.

    The Human Spirit is alive and well in the true citizens of this planet. I hope all politicians see this and take note that these are the very people who give them heir 'leadership' status and their exorbitant paycheques.     People. People just like me inspired me to watch this video. Other human beings, 7 billion others, with dreams, joys, sorrows, love, friendship and trials inspired me to watch. I'm so glad I did. It really made me feel more a part of US. And at the end, the laughter was so infectious. It didn't matter why. It just was, and I found myself laughing too. Thank you for this project. It made a great difference in my day today:)

    According to the World Bank report last year, out of the 7 billion world population, 1.2 billion are living with $ 1.25 a day. In India with her 1.2 billion population, 33% are living (400 million) with $ 1.25 day. It is very heartbreaking to see the high contradiction in between the extreme affluence and poverty in India. While I was standing in front of slum in Delhi six years back, I was surprised to see the flow of expensive foreign-made cars; on the other hand crying and naked children walking like street dogs. If the wealthy has has no eyes to see the suffering and crying people, the Creator will question the rich about their total irresponsibility of not sharing a portion of their wealth with the hungry and crying world. We are now faced with the day of divine judgment, the man-made wealth is disappearing by the billions every day. Had they used the wealth wisely to feed the hungry-clothe the naked and educate the illiterate, they could have felt far greater happiness in life. We are not created to hoard for ourselves and to enjoy the zenith of pleasure, but to lift the weak and feed the hungry.

    We share this planet with all animals, all ecosystems. Unity is about truly understanding how the world looks from another living being's (human and nonhuman) point of view, to recognize that each living being has a valid point of view, and to give that living being our moral consideration. Otherwise, we are we drawing a line between “us” and “them,” just as in any form of discrimination. The process of prejudice and violence is the same whether between human and nonhuman animals, whites and blacks, or men and women.

    The woman who said to tell someone every day that you love them reminded me that whenever I feel lonely and unloved, all I have to do is tell somebody, even a complete stranger, that I love them and then I feel one with them. When I can't do that, I just smile at everyone and if they smile back at me I know the we have made a connection, that we are really all one, together.
