THREE houses were destroyed and two others damaged by a fire that hit a residential area in sitio Upper Pang-Pang, barangay Guadalupe in Cebu City on Saturday noon.

Firefighters said the fire originated at the one-storey house of Segundina “Nita” Abella. Abella said she left to buy chlorine and returned to see a fire broke out at her house.

She immediately looked for her one-year-old grandson, Ariston, who slept in his hammock when she left their house.

Ariston was saved by a neighbor, Miko Nudalo, who heard the baby crying. Racquel Arce, Abella’s niece, was watching TV at that time when she heard something blow up inside Abella’s house.

Arce’s house is two houses away from Abella’s house. Abella said she believed her 15-year-old TV set overheated and blew up inside her living room.

SFO3 Lowel Opolentisima, fire investigator, said they are still verifying the cause of the fire. Damages were initially pegged at P30,000.

They received the fire alarm at 12:08 pm and the fire was declared under control at 12:20 pm.
