Jimmy Carter: I prefer Trump over Cruz because Trump “completely malleable”

Jimmy Carter: I prefer Trump over Cruz because Trump “completely malleable”

Cruz has “has far right wing policies he’d pursue if he became president”

Jimmy Carter has joined with much of the Republican establishment in expressing preference for Donald Trump over Ted Cruz because Trump will make deals.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports:

Turning to the “almost completely unpredictable” race for the Republican nomination, Carter said he had a “feeling” that Trump’s chances ultimately would “fade away.

“When people actually get ready to put on a ballot, ‘This is the person I want to lead me for the next four or eight years, I think they’ll have a little different opinion,’” Carter said.

Still, better him than Ted Cruz.

If he had to choose between Cruz and Trump for the Republican nomination, Carter chuckled, “I think I would choose Trump, which may surprise some of you.”

(It did, judging by the loud laughter from the audience.)

“The reason is, Trump has proven already he’s completly malleable,” Carter explained. “I don’t think he has any fixed (positions) he’d go the White House and fight for. On the other hand, Ted Cruz is not malleable. He has far right wing policies he’d pursue if he became president.”

I suppose that this is the point at which I’m supposed to say something witty.

I have nothing to add.

Based on Ted Cruz’s Senate career he’s right.

It was full of stunts designed to kill deals.

It’s not 2000 anymore. This time is different. Once upon a time gridlock was acceptable, but this time it’s not. Baseline spending is way up. Obamacare is a bomb that will destroy American health care. Republican consensus on allowing legal immigration but disapproving of illegal immigration is gone forever (Obama rendered the consensus absurd by legalizing everybody with the swipe of a pen)

This time we affirmatively need some things, not just to stall the Democrats.

Why is Ted the parliamentarian trying to be an executive anyways?

This time we affirmatively need some things, not just to stall the Democrats.

What ‘we’ need is to STOP the Democrats, not stall them.

Making deals with them isn’t going to stop them.

Cruz is a man of character. There was absolutely no practical reason for him to go against ethanol subsidies. He did. And he still won Iowa. That speaks to his integrity.

Some “stunts designed to kill deals” are pretty smart:

Killing deals that would grant amnesty to millions of people illegally present in the U.S.
Killing deals that would restrict the political speech rights of American citizens.
Killing deals that would increase federal control of our right to keep and bear arms.
Killing deals (trying to anyway) that have cost people their health coverage and even their jobs.
Killing deals that would have armed “rebels” in Syria when we cannot tell whether they are rebels against Assad or jihadis working to overthrow Assad to further the Islamic State.

Senator Cruz’s “stunts” have been very good for America.

    “stunts designed to kill deals”

Only to a Trump cultist like you. Any rational person realizes that these “stunts” were the only moves left to an ethical man who wanted to keep the promises he made rather than get invited to the best parties. When you have no support from your supposedly conservative leadership who is know for betraying its voter base you have to go with asymmetrical warfare which is what Cruz did.

If the 2nd worst president in American history endorses you, you must be bad too

Well, yes. He’s exactly right. That’s why I prefer Ted Cruz.

Geez, who’d have thought Yimminy Cahtuh would provide Cruz the best sound bite he’s likely to get from a ‘rat?

And if anyone would know malleable when he sees it, it’s Yimminy.

Cruz has “has far right wing policies he’d pursue if he became president”

Yes. Like defending, and taking executive actions in accordance with, the Constitution which Jimmy Carter once swore to defend.

Carter’s trajectory has been leftish for decades, and the above idiotic statement is a measure of how extreme he’s gotten.

Do we really give a rat’s a#@ what this superannuated anti-Israel blowhard has to say?

“The reason is, Trump has proven already he’s completly malleable,” Carter explained. “I don’t think he has any fixed (positions) he’d go the White House and fight for. On the other hand, Ted Cruz is not malleable. He has far right wing policies he’d pursue if he became president.”

Since this is from the peanut farmer, the second worst president ever, it’s a pretty good reason to vote for Cruz in my book!

Go home, Jimmy…just go home.

Trump is a negotiator, true. But not “malleable”….he knows how to walk away from a bad deal.

Sanddog in reply to profshadow. | February 4, 2016 at 10:18 am

And what he considers a bad deal is completely dependent on what will gain him the most popularity.

inspectorudy in reply to profshadow. | February 4, 2016 at 11:07 am

The only bad deals that Trump has walked away from were bankruptcies. They were caused by his bad decisions. Carter is correct when he says Trump has no core values. Think back to the insulting things he has said about ALL of the Republican contenders and tell me that this is a man you would like to see in the WH. Ben Carson is a pedophile. Fiorina is ugly. Jeb Bush is a loser and low energy. Kasich would be a failure if not for Ohio”s oil money. Cruz is a liar. In our country’s founding days of duels, this fool would have had to be a damn good shot or a great swordsman to stay alive with his big mouth. We can only imagine what trouble he would cause our nation if elected.

It is comments like this that make me wonder if Jimmy Carter lusts after Caitlyn Jenner in his heart because she says she is a Republican.

I thought he was dead……..zombie????

If Jimmy can be trusted on anything, it’s his judge of character for sure.

Because using the Constitution to govern is such a terrible idea.

Come on….did Cruz pay him to say that?

I keep saying it. Trump is real estate. Real estate is connected to politics. Trump is a mercenary in the sense that he has dealt with both sides of the aisle.

Can he make deals? Sure. Can he use the laws to his advantage? Obviously. Does he covet his neighbor’s home and wife? Well sometimes clearly he does.

Do I trust him to keep his word once he is in office? On some issues yes. On some no. And he’s a New Yorker. He would have been better off working for one of his father’s contractors growing up. I and my children were better for it.

But we are talking about the word of a guy who saw a UFO and shared the Peace Prize with the bloodiest terrorist around and still supports them despite the obvious blood on their hands. And who is widely regarded as one of the worst presidents in history. He’s the gold standard for feckless and bad. Only Clinton surpasses him in moral turpitude.

Trump’s got his faults but don’t judge him by a Carter endorsement even if it is backhanded.

Given Carters keen and proven powers of analysis I guess this means….

TRUMP 2016 !

Jimmy Carter is the global village idiot, but he makes for an excellent political and ideological barometer: whatever he’s “for”, the intelligent position is “against”, and whatever he’s “against”, the intelligent position is “for”
    For example
He never accepted the legitimacy of Bush’s win in the election of 2000. The correct position is that Bush’s win was completely legitimate under any of the judicial standards then in effect, and under any constitutional standard.
He blames Israel almost solely for the continuing conflict in the Middle East. The correct position is that the Palestinians, and other Muslims are almost entirely to blame.
He says the election process in Venezuela is the best in the world. The correct position is that as with all communist governments until they collapse of their own dead weight, the election is rigged to deny a real opposition any chance to win.

Tclump IS the “malleable” candidate. He’s Mr. Silly Putty.

    #Madoffvalues

Book of Trump-thumping Britt uses SalonLeft as his higher authority.

You missed the point, again. Actually, you got it turned completely upside down. Nothing new there.

How has this waste of space not keeled over yet? Look at him, looks like an extra on the walking dead and was one during his failed Presidency.

Carter is just peeved that he’s recently lost his place as “worst president of the past century”.

I would imagine the landscape is littered with people who thought that Trump would be “malleable”.

But what have we seen so far in this election? Has the press found Trump malleable? How about the RNC? Well, ahh, no and no. Well, maybe he’s not all that malleable, after all.

I have no problem with deals, so long as they’re good deals for the United States. “Good” just means that the Progressive Axis doesn’t win every goddamn time. However, if you think that the word “deal” is a synonym for “surrender”, then deals are obviously not so good. But not even Jimmah is enough of a crock to try to claim that Trump is a quy who’s notoriously quick to surrender.

Perhaps what Carter means by “malleable” is that Trump, not being a slave to any easily identifiable doctrine, is unpredictable. In that case, maybe the drooling old peanut is right.

    Double pike with backflip! Exceptional!

Cruz definitely has far more solid conservative policies. However, I think they believe they can win against Cruz but are extremely worried about Trump. Trump gets a lot of crossover; Cruz does not. There is nothing the Left wants more than the presidency. I’m not at all convinced this isn’t a total subterfuge. Carter knows endorsing Trump hurts him.

They are more afraid of Trump than Cruz and yes, unpredictability has a lot to do with it.

Radegunda in reply to tom swift. | February 4, 2016 at 2:47 pm

How did Mr. Unpredictable become the one and only candidate who can be relied upon to do what he says, per Trump fans?

How is he the antidote to all the RINOs who aren’t 100% pure conservative in office, as many a Trump fan has insisted?

Like our corrupt cultural Marxist leader, Perfesser Jake, Jimmy wants to see the dirty trickster, ol’ H-1B Canadian Ted, on top of the ‘Ican ticket. That’s some easy pickins for the ‘Rats.

I don’t need anybody to “lead” me for the next four or eight years, and I don’t choose a president on that basis. The president is a civil servant, an employee of We, The People. The president’s job is to run the executive branch of the federal government, not to “rule” over us peasants. It is a sad commentary on the times we live in that people like Carter and Obama still don’t understand that.

Sanddog in reply to Observer. | February 4, 2016 at 10:23 am

Unfortunately, that type of thinking is in the minority. I’ve come to the conclusion over the years that most people DO want to be ruled. It seems a very large segment of our population is more than happy to turn their own responsibilities over to others.

“has far right wing policies he’d pursue if he became president”

You mean like adherence to the Constitution, balanced budgets, rule of law, self-reliance, strong national security, border protection and other “radical” stuff like that?

What an imbecile.

Hey Jimmy, aren’t you the one that gave away the Panama Canal to the Red Chinese? I would think that you would go back to building houses and leave politics alone. In other words, mind your own business.

Should be a Cruz campaign ad. Umm President Carter, I hate to break the news to you, must people thought you sucked so you inadvertently just endorsed Cruz.

Who cares what the ” Peanut Farmer,” thinks. He and his relatives are all vicious idiots. His wife was actually making a lot of the decisions. ( And they were all bad. )

Carter inadvertently hangs an anchor around Trump’s neck. “Completely malleable.” “No fixed positions he’d go to the White House and fight for.” lol. Awesome.

Henry Hawkins in reply to Henry Hawkins. | February 4, 2016 at 1:48 pm

It’s a two-fer, Henry. It also shows how Democrat Party rock star Jimmy Carter thinks being completely and eminently moldable and without core principles is a feature, not a bug. lol. Priceless.

Mr. Peanut – outstanding in his field, as he should be.

“he’s completely malleable”

Translation; Carter realizes that Trump is the kid of person who will roll over on any issue if you rub is belly the right way.

Jimmy Carter films a campaign ad for Cruz!

DINORightMarie | February 4, 2016 at 7:37 pm

When the (now 2nd) worst president in history says this about you – that you’re not malleable, that you’re principled and will stand up for the Constitution – then that’s an ENDORSEMENT!!

What a great way to expose Trump, too, for what he is – as well all know who are honest and not on Trump’s payroll or otherwise sold out to The Donald!! Trump is a FRAUD, a LIAR, and an opportunistic, dictatorial narcissist.

We don’t need another one of those in the White House!! Ever again!

Go Ted Cruz!!!

This sounds like an attempted kiss-of-death endorsement.
