Taco Bell announced today it is the first quick-service restaurant chain to menu items certified by the American Vegetarian Association.
The menu — launched today on its mobile ordering app and new website ta.co — offers 13 AVA-certified items such as the 7-Layer Burrito and the Cantina Power Veggie Bowl.
“We get it — being a vegetarian can be tough when you go out to eat,” CEO Brian Niccol said in a news release. “We’re proud to treat meat lovers and vegetarians equally … .”
In May, Taco Bell announced the removal of all artificial flavors and colors, as well as added trans fat, high fructose corn syrup and unsustainable palm oil by the end of 2015.
The Irvine, Calif.-based chain has more than 6,000 restaurants across the U.S.
