Burning down the GOP barn

Oct. 4 — To the Editor:

Speaker of the House John Boehner (R-OH) finally yielding to pressure from the right wing extremists of his own party to step down from his leadership position and Congress, stated that he hopes to “clean the barn” for his successor.

However, Boehner will no longer need to be concerned with cleanup since his presumptive successor, House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy(R-CA) torched the barn with the following firebomb while listing the “accomplishments” of the current do-nothing Congress to Sean Hannity of Fox “News”: "Everybody thought Hillary Clinton was unbeatable, right? But we put together a Benghazi special committee, a select committee. What are her numbers today? Her numbers are dropping."

When I first heard McCarthy deliver his confession on behalf of the GOP, I could only feel sympathy for the families of the unfortunate victims (U.S. Ambassador to Libya and CIA paramilitary personnel) of the attack on the U.S. “Consulate” in Benghazi, Libya, as they have been reminded almost daily, since 9/11/2012, of the tragic event by the right wing media (Fox “News” Network and Rush Limbaugh, et al) and Republican Party politicians (please refer to the Three Amigos: Senators McCain, Graham and Ayotte). Now, with McCarthy’s admission, the families have abruptly discovered that the GOP was using the Benghazi tragedy and deaths of their loved ones simply to bring down its political enemies (President Obama and former Secretary of State Clinton).

Furthermore, considering that the far, far more serious (from a national security perspective) Bush/Cheney era al Qaida attacks of America on 9/11/2001 and the invasion of Iraq, under false pretenses, only received one white-washed investigation each, American citizens should be outraged at the millions of dollars that were spent on seven congressional investigations of Benghazi, supposedly conducted in search of the “truth” for the American people.

Instances like this are just the tip of the iceberg as to why I have repeatedly told my children throughout the years that, “Yes, I’m a registered Democrat, but I’m not so much a diehard Democrat as much as I am an absolute diehard Non-Republican.”
