PROVIDENCE -- A local family is appealing for help in locating a relative missing since Aug. 10.

Kerry Mello, 36, was last seen that Monday by his girlfriend, Gina Kirwin, when she left her Silver Lake apartment to go to work nearby. Mello was not in the apartment in the city's Silver Lake section when Kirwin returned about midnight from her job.

Mello, who lives at 11 Community Drive in Cranston, has not returned to his home and has not contacted his relatives since that day, according to Vincent Clement, a relative. Mello was in almost daily contact with his mother, Priscilla Mello.

"He's never done this," Clement said. "That's why his mother is so upset."

The family has checked with hospitals in and around the city, the Rhode Island State Police and even the Adult Correctional Institute in Cranston in its effort to find Mello, Clement said.

They also filed a missing person report with the Providence Police Department. All, so far, in vain.

Anyone with information regarding Kerry Mello's whereabouts may contact Providence Police at (401) 272-3121. Alternately, they may contact the family by calling the Institute for the Study & Practice of Nonviolence in Providence. The center's phone number is (401) 785-2320.
