Portage la Prairie received a $25,000 grant for tree planting from the federal government, CN EcoConnexions From the Ground Up program and Tree Canada. Trees were planted at Island Park on June 16.

(From left) Dakota Tipi First Nations representatives, elder John Taylor and son Darryl Taylor, Portage La Prairie MLA Ian Wishart, City of Portage la Prairie parks manager Dave Green, Portage la Prairie mayor Irvine Ferris, CN Rail public affairs manager Kate Fenske and Raymond Carriere from Communities in Bloom and Tree Canada took part in the tree planting.
