Tornado confirmed in Washington Co., some property damage

The Associated Press

WASHINGTON, Pa. — Weather officials have confirmed that a tornado touched down in Pennsylvania during Friday's storms, causing some property damage but no reported injuries.

The National Weather Service reports that the EF-1 tornado touched down shortly before 3:30 p.m. Friday near Lone Pine in Washington County in western Pennsylvania.

Forecasters said the storm carried maximum winds of 90 mph and traveled for almost two and one-half miles, snapping and stripping many trees, tearing the roof off a porch and partially lifting off a garage roof while tearing shingles from other homes. Deck furniture was also blown aloft and into other properties.

The weather service office in Pittsburgh said it's the 12th confirmed tornado in Washington County since 1950 and the third in the last five years.
