THE men’s and women’s volleyball teams of the University of San Carlos (USC) met contrasting fates in their opening campaigns in the 21st Philippine University Games volleyball tournament late Tuesday night in Dumaguete City.

The men’s team, last year’s runner up in the Cesafi competition, displayed solid team effort in scoring two victories. It first defeated University of Mindanao-Tagum (UM-T), 25-15, 25-20, 25-12, then nipped Rizal Technological University (RTU), 25-21, 25-21, 25-20, for a 2-0 (win-loss) start.

The Lady Warriors, on the other hand, showed some toughness down the stretch but it wasn’t enough to overcome NCAA powerhouse University of Perpetual Help System Dalta (UPHSD) to lose, 21-25, 21-25, 24-26.

The Lady Warriors hope to bounce back tomorrow when they battle University of San Agustin, while the men’s team shoots for a spot in the quarterfinals against the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos.
