Serena Williams defied the laws of nature after winning her record-breaking Grand Slam title at the top of the year while two months pregnant. Former tennis player and current coach Ilie Natase allegedly made a racist comment towards Williams’ unborn child, which prompted the living tennis legend to hit back with an eloquent Instagram post defending her seed as only a mother would.

Natase, 70, uttered the statement during the Fed Cup contest in Romania last week, this after the Romanian player Simona Halep was answering a question about Williams’ pregnancy. Natase allegedly turned to another player and said in his native tongue, “Let’s see what color it has. Chocolate with milk?”

Williams caught wind of the statement as the BBC notes in the following:

“It disappoints me to know we live in a society where people like Ilie Nastase can make such racist comments,” Williams said in a statement.

Williams, 35, is due to give birth to her first child in the autumn.

“I have said it once and I’ll say it again, this world has come so far but yet we have so much further to go,” Williams added. “Yes, we have broken down so many barriers – however there are a plethora more to go.

“This or anything else will not stop me from pouring love, light and positivity into everything that I do. I will continue to take a lead and stand up for what’s right.”

The International Tennis Federation (ITF) has launched an investigation into the comments made by 70-year-old Nastase, Romania’s Fed Cup captain, at a news conference before their tie with Great Britain in Constanta last week.

Williams is in support of the ITF’s investigation and that wasn’t the only awful act that Natase reportedly performed during the Fed Cup contest. Natase was allegedly overheard talking to British team captain Anne Keothavong and asked for her room number. Natase reportedly screamed at Keothavong and world no. 7 player Johanna Konta.

Sounds like a classy human being, right?
