The First Post COP 21 Dialogue after the Paris Conference: CLIMATE AGREEMENT AT COP 21: Success, Implementations & Implications for Africa and NigeriaThe Post COP21 Dialogue, immediately after the Paris Conference, was a veritable platform to engage stakeholders and the youths in the Climate Action Process following the decisions at the just concluded United Nations Conference of Parties.
AKWA IBOM STATE: As the sponsor of the first ever Post COP 21 event, the state is expected to further blaze the trail in the New Year, by taking the lead in organizing more quality and fruitful national and state climate solution events. Florida, USA His Excellency, the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, was represented by the Commissioner for Environment and Mineral resources, Dr Iniobong Ene Essien. He outlined how the vast impacts of climate change have been felt by the people of Akwa Ibom State. GENERAL VIEWS FROM POST COP 21 DIALOGUE: · Development of Policy on Environment with a section on climate change mitigation and adaptation in states · Raising of seedlings for Climate Change mitigation and REDD strategies for the states · More tree planting initiatives in the states · Establishment of a Light up Nigeria project via clean energy · Legislate against the use of Incandescent lamps in states for energy efficiency and health sustainability · Governments should consider the mass purchase and distribution of energy efficient and solar lamps · To encourage state government to switch state houses and government establishments to renewable energy and encourage with incentives, the public to do same · That the Federal Government should consider the removal of custom duties on energy saving products · That there should be an increase in awareness programmes among Women, Youth and Children · Individuals to start tree planting project in their own immediate environment · To embark on women empowerment programmes through climate solution projects such as clean cooking solutions · To also have more women in attendance at programmes of this nature · And states should be encouraged by the Federal Ministry of Environment to set up Departments of Climate Change in their ministries of environment Contact Olawale Akinwumi, Juddie Passion, Gbolahan Adedotun, Dr. Victor Fodeke ***@africacleanenergygroup.org +1-347-220-4944 Photos: https://www.prlog.org/ https://www.prlog.org/ https://www.prlog.org/ End
